Not a lot of info but a new liquor license placard posted out front says Bacaro will be a:
“New Restaurant serving modern American food. Total occupancy load of 65.”
Now it’s a race between Convivial (from Mintwood Place folks) and Bacaro. Updates when they get closer.

Back in May we first heard rumors of a Whole Foods coming to 9th and U St, NW. On twitter @mr_roaming asked:
“Is the @WholeFoods coming to @TheShayDC? #Washington #DC”
@WholeFoods replied:
“@mr_roaming We have a store in development in DC but not sure on the location.”
Now we already know Whole Foods already had announced plans for H Street, NE and Navy Yard. So I’m guessing/hoping the store in development is one not already announced yet? Surely Whole Foods would know the location of a store in development right? So were they being coy? Giving us a hint? Help me dissect this tweet! Does this give greater hope for a Whole Foods around 8th/U St/Florida Ave?

Thanks to a reader for sending word. Grand Cata will be located in the new Jefferson Marketplace building. Hours are listed as Sunday through Saturday 10 am – 10 pm. It’s interesting to note that Grand Cata was originally slated to come to Mt. Vernon Square.

Last week we learned about Mr. P’s health problems (and family’s decision to remove from life support). While I still haven’t heard an official word – it appears the spot at 6th and Rhode Island Ave, NW will not reopen. @lac025 tweets us an update:

Over the summer we learned that the owners and chef from Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan would be opening a second restaurant at 801 O Street, NW in Shaw. A few readers have sent emails asking for an update, noting no visible construction and that their liquor license placard has been turned around. Emails to the owner for an update have not been returned. Hopefully they’re just raising money but it’s not clear if they’re still on track for a Spring opening. Updates when more info is known.
1209 10th St NW REAR in Blagden Alley
Last week we learned about plans for a Localteria in Blagden Alley. The owner sends me an update via email:
“We opened Localteria today in Blagden Alley, 1209 10th St NW REAR. We don’t have all of the items in yet, but it’s still surprising to see what a variety of foods and beverages our neighbors are making.”
Hours are 11 to 11 and midnight on weekends. And standby for beer and wine when they get a liquor license.

Got a few emails like this one:
“Have you heard any information on Shaw’s Tavern from this past weekend? I understand there was a party on the second floor and ABRA investigators showed up revealing that the property had never been given a Certificate of Occupancy for the second floor. And that the bar built up there was illegally completed without any permits, a friend of mine said they were ordered to shut down the place?”
Ed. Note: Shaw’s Tavern originally had some troubles when they were first trying to open in 2011.
A new venture from the former Blagden Alley Waffle space – a “locateria”. I’m told it’ll be like a corner store featuring all local items. Not sure of the opening date but I’ll definitely update when more is known.
