Last week the note said:

“Our ANC forces us to limit the number of people in the garden to 126. Please tell your elected officials that you want Dacha’s capacity increased to 350”.

Stay tuned.

Gone but not forgotten.

From American University:

“Matt Shlonsky loved Washington, DC. Since arriving at American University in 2010, Matt had embraced his adopted city, attending historical events, concerts, and other local activities across the district. After his graduation from the School of International Service in May 2014, Matt elected to remain in Washington, starting a career in business communications and consulting. Matt continued to give back to the School of International Service as a generous volunteer and a donor. Matt was already on his way to a successful career with Deloitte and other exciting pursuits outside of his work.

Our hearts are broken to report that Matt’s future of unlimited possibilities ended tragically on August 15, 2015, when he fell victim to gun violence in Washington. Matt left behind a loving family, many hundreds of loyal friends, and a remarkable legacy of caring and kindness that betrayed his 23 years. (more…)

A couple weeks ago we learned “Dacha seems to be in very big trouble with ABRA”. Think they can rally enough support to save themselves? If not, CityPaper reported:

“Dacha Beer Garden owners Dmitri Chekaldin and Ilya Alter are laying off half of their staff and negotiating to sell the business amid a battle with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission over their capacity level.

Meanwhile, the owners are in negotiations to sell the business to a big German beer brand (which Chekaldin declined to name) that has plans for several beer gardens in the U.S.”

Think Dacha would survive/continue to thrive if it’s bought by “a big German beer brand”?

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone know what’s going on to the building right by Duffy’s? Looks like it is finally under construction.”

I’ve been getting a few emails mentioning that work had finally started at 2100 Vermont Ave, NW. Back in August of 2014 we finally learned who’d be moving into long vacant building next to Duffy’s – Wet Dog Tavern. The liquor license placard revealed it’ll be:

“Tavern serving American Food. Occasional live entertainment to include Deejays, live music
and dancing.

Sidewalk Café Seats is 30, Summer Garden with Backyard Seats of 70.

Summer Garden RoofDeck total is 30

Entertainment Endorsement, Cover Charge, Dancing. Total Occupancy Load 200.”

Stay tuned.

I was able to get a sneak peek at a preview party last night and it is pretty swank. Some of the theaters were much smaller than I expected but damn the seats are posh.

For those who missed the earlier release:

“Landmark Theatres is proud to announce the opening of Washington DC’s newest movie theatre and lounge, Atlantic Plumbing Cinema. The premiere film will be STEVE JOBS, starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen. It premieres Thursday, October 15 at 8 PM and will be featured on all 6 screens.”
