A reader passes on a message sent to the Ward 1 and Ward 4 council members:

“In these incidents, an illegal “bomb” firework was lobbed directly at the front porches of two Petworth/Park View residents, the first on July 18th in Ward 4, and the second on July 20th in Ward 1. Ed. Note: I heard the latter was in Park View.

In the first incident, the bomb squad was called out. A hole was blown straight through the porch.
In the the second incident, the porch was severely damaged–mangling an iron rail. In both cases, the residents were at home. (more…)

damage from Columbia Heights explosion a week and a half ago

“Dear PoPville,

There were 2 loud explosions about 10 mins apart in Petworth last night around 11pm. Louder than fireworks and shook our house, which is in between grant and Sherman circle. Any news on this?”

Given the power of what we saw in Columbia Heights, I’m guessing it probably is more “fireworks”. Have folks noticed more powerful explosions this year over previous years?

Capitol Cider House is nearly here! From their website:

“At Capitol Cider House, we do cider right. No added chemicals or preservatives. Only showcasing producers within 200 miles of the Capitol building. Always gluten free. Not too sweet. More like a fine wine than a popsicle.

All our goods are sourced from within 200 miles of the US Capitol Building. We have a few of our own concoctions and many ciders from Mid-Atlantic producers that are otherwise hard to find in DC. Our menu is always changing, but we’re always keeping it local.

We invite you to visit our brand new production space and tasting room at 3930 Georgia Avenue. Chill out on our patio, play a round of shuffleboard and enjoy a snack while sampling a flight of regional ciders. Kids are welcome, and friendly dogs can hang out in our outside space.”

They should be open in the next week or so but I’ll be updating when I get an exact opening date. A few other things before checking out all the photos of the amazing space. A big patio is coming. There will be food – starting with Empanadas and Rotis (and hot dogs for the kids) from food trucks. There will be 10 ciders on tap, 1 mead, 1 beer plus cans, bottles, wine and some cocktails. Now check out the amazing space:

Many more photos after the jump. (more…)
