Thanks for always being there.

Great turnout for the celebration Sunday afternoon.

From DCFD:

“Engine Company 24 was placed in service on November 29, 1911 at 3702 Georgia Ave NW. The fire house was sold to Metro and the site was turned into a Metro Station subway stop. The front of the fire house was moved around the corner on New Hampshire Ave and is used by Metro as a transformer station . In May of 1994 the company moved into their new fire house at 5101 Georgia Ave NW. The new fire house was designed by member of the company and built by Metro.”

Holy freaking awesome. Ed. Note: Those who’ve not followed from the beginning might not get my enthusiasm. But trust me, this is huge for the neighborhood. It’s been such a long wait for Chez Billy’s (nee the old Billy Simpson’s place) coming to 3815 Georgia Ave, NW in Petworth. We’re getting so close. (See a rendering of the inside here.) So how do you think the exterior has turned out so far?

Hard to imagine it looked like this in September:

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

This 4 bed/3.5 bath is going for $669,900. Walking closet or not that seems a tad high to me. What do you think it’ll end up going for?

I swear I’m not a morbid guy – Rock Creek Church cemetery simply has so much to see (as others have noted) especially in autumn.

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what is up with the King and I Pizza? I’ve tried to order pizza a few times but the phone goes straight to a fax. I finally got someone to answer tonight and I tried to order pizza and they said they aren’t selling pizza this week? They changed the menu apparently, but when I asked what they were selling now the woman could only tell me they had fried tilapia. Other than that she didn’t know what was on the menu. Seriously? Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated.”

The King and I located at 847 Upshur St, NW has reopened under new management. I know there were some ambitious plans for the space but apparently they fell through. I’m sorry I can’t share more details because I don’t want to jeopardize plans for a new space. In any event, I briefly chatted with the new management and I’m happy to say they were extremely nice. I also am pleased to see the glass partition remains down. Small victories.

A look at the new menu after the jump. (more…)

It’s interesting to contrast this one to the un-renovated one up the block that we looked at last week.

This 4 bed/3.5 bath is going for $550,000.
