“At approximately 2am on September 27, a lookout for a man with a gun in the 3600 block of Warder St., NW, was received by MPD officers. The suspect was located, found to be in possession of a handgun and placed under arrest. The suspect also had a small amount of marijuana on his person.”

Back in March we learned that a new bar with ping pong tables would be taking over the space. A new permit posted out front says buildout for a new “coffee shop/bar”:
Sounds like in the morning they’ll be a coffee shop and transition to a bar at night. Keeping my fingers crossed on the ping pong tables…

This week in scuttlebutt I hear that a fried chicken pop up (from chef/folks many have heard of) is coming to that vacant space set to eventually be developed at Georgia Ave, NW. I guess while they are waiting for plans/logistics to fall into place a pop up restaurant featuring fried chicken could take over the space for a while. Updates when/if more info is know.

Back in April we learned that Heat Da Spot Coffee and Deli would be replacing the short lived Tibet Shop on Georgia Ave. You can see the progress that’s been made in the photo above – with larger windows added and a new entrance onto the good sized patio space. Looking forward to seeing how the inside turns out too!

“Dear PoPville,
All three of our bikes (our only mode of transportation) were stolen out of our garage in Park View, in the alley between Irving St NW and Columbia Rd. NW between Warder and Georgia Ave. The crime happened between 10pm on 8/11/14 and 6:30am on 8/12. Unfortunately, there was no way to lock them to anything in our garage so they were locked to themselves. The thieves came in the back yard and through a second story window into the 2-story garage, jumping down below and opening the garage door from the inside. We just purchased and moved into this home a few weeks ago, so needless to say we are gutted.
Taken were: 2008 navy blue Bianchi Volpe with a Brooks saddle, SPD pedals and drop handlebars with brown tape, featuring a large dent in the top tube; a 2008 forest green Surly Long Haul Trucker with an Air Zound air horn, Brooks saddle, black handlebar tape, a Surly “Nice” rear rack and SPD pedals; and our most prized possession, a 2005 silver Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike with an Xtracycle long tail attachment and black Surly front fork, with a padded “magic carpet” seat on the rear and blinky lights strung about.
We rode off from our wedding on the Xtracycle, use it to haul our Christmas trees in the winter, and are in the midst of training for a century on our other two bikes.
We are particularly concerned that a neighbor was involved in this theft as it seems unlikely that a random thief would break into our garage in such a manner without knowing the interior contents.

MPD later emailed:
“Just before 11pm, units responded to the 3600 blk of Warder St NW for a man down. Calls were also received for a shooting. Upon arrival, an adult male was located suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced. This case is being investigated by the Homicide Branch. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”
Readers reported lots of helicopters and one said “Police have told us to stay in our house and lock the doors.”

Big news for the denizens of Lamont Street.
I always new it would happen and when I first moved in 5 years ago I hated the factory. But I have to say it has really grown on me over the years. They always stopped working at a reasonable hour, it kept parking available and when Alsco took over they really worked on the trash problem. Once I realized it wasn’t “horrible” I kinda started to think it was cool to live near where people actually physically produced something. Some of my old neighbors from Park Road would work there and we would say hi.
The place DID catch fire once a month though, like clockwork.”
Anyone hear early details of the plans? Could be hugely transformative.
