Wowza. I’ve been getting lots of inquiries about what’s going on at the old Kraken Axes (RIP Murry’s) space on Georgia. Well, holy cow. They should be soft opening as early as tomorrow or possibly this weekend with a grand opening coming later this month. Stay tuned for confirmation on that but in the meantime, lots of info from a press release:

“HOOK HALL, named in salute of a legendary pirate, this new venue is inspired by the same pull of the sea and sense of adventure buccaneers are known to embrace. Enhanced with design elements and accents reminiscent of the oceans on which he sailed, Hook Hall has reimagined an industrial 13,500 square-foot venue to offer a unique, multi-flex space in the burgeoning Park View/Petworth community. By day it serves as a neighborhood gathering place serving coffee and pastries and affording comfortable meeting and working space. “On June 22, 2019, at approximately 9:50pm, patrol officers of the Fourth District received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 600 block of Morton St NW and the 3400 block of Georgia Avenue NW. Upon officers’ arrival, one adult male was located in an unconscious state on Morton St NW with multiple gunshot wounds. (more…)

9:25pm Shooting Homicide in Park View; Shooting in Shaw around Midnight

“On June 19, 2019, at approximately 9:25pm, Fourth District members were dispatched to the 700 block of Princeton Pl. NW regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, the victim was located in an alleyway suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where life-saving efforts proved futile. The victim was later pronounced deceased. There is no current lookout for any suspects.

ANC1A Public Safety Meeting Tonight to Address Recent Violence in Columbia Heights/Park View

“In response to the recent increase in gun violence in our community and the urgent need to get answers and find solutions, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1A has organized a panel for tonight where we can get updates on the efforts being undertaken to restore safety to our community. The event is scheduled for tonight (5/29) beginning at 7 pm. It will be held in the gymnasium of the Harriet Tubman Elementary School.
