“Join us for the inaugural Park View Pinewood Derby. A Pinewood Derby is a racing event for unpowered, unmanned, handmade miniature cars. Traditionally just for kids, this is a Pinewood Derby for all ages – young and young at heart! Buy a kit, design and craft your car, and bring it to compete on our race track! We’ll have prizes for the fastest cars as well as People’s Choice awards for most the most creative design.

“I heard 9 gun shots last night at 12.25am. Sounded like it was around Kenyon and Georgia Ave NW. No sirens or news about it this am. Did anyone else hear this? Four shots, pause, then five.”

Another reader reported around that time “Heard gunshots near Euclid and Sherman nw”

How in the world did this happen to our alley neighbor overnight?!

The white BMW is always parked in what used to be a little protected parking space and the grey gate would swing open to allow access in and out. This morning it appears another car forcefully joined the BMW by completely smashing through the enclosure. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

A friend of mine was walking down Sherman Ave at Euclid and was told that they could not keep walking south due to an active gas leak. They aren’t even letting crew members or folks that live on that block in. Does anyone know what’s going on or when it will be resolved? I’m not sure where to look for that info. (Side note, my building is in this photo and my dog is inside with the windows open.. should I worry??)”

Side note: Nearby DC Water reports, “Emergency shut on 8″ water main due to struck service on the 1000 Block of Girard St NW between 11th St and Sherman Ave NW. ETA 6-8 hours”

I was involved in a hit and run Sunday September 29 at the crossroads of Georgia Ave and Harvard St’s NW. You can find the video (above.) I have suffered greatly as a result of this accident, breaking and separating my shoulder and sustaining 3 breaks in my pelvis, that said I’m lucky to even be here asking for help. “As the District celebrates the inaugural Open Streets DC event on Saturday, October 5, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists to expect road closures, parking restrictions and travel delays on and around Georgia Avenue NW between Missouri Avenue NW and Barry Place NW. What the Hell Happened Part Two – Shooting in Park View around 10:15pm Last Night

From MPD around 10:30pm: “Shooting //600 blk of Newton Street, NW”

Update from MPD:

“At approximately 10:10 pm last night, an adult male flagged down Metropolitan Police Officers near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Newton Place, Northwest, complaining of a gunshot wound. The victim of the shooting was treated for non-life threatening injuries and transported to an area hospital by the District of Columbia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.

Further investigation revealed a crime scene in the 600 block of Newton Place, Northwest.

Readers reported: “Around 10:10pm, we heard a rapid succession of about 15 gunshots on the 600 block of Newton Pl NW. The police came and taped off the street, and we heard them say that they found several gun shell casings. (more…)
