Heads Up: Westbound Lanes of K Street at 22nd St, NW Closed Friday Night – Monday Morning

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be closing the two westbound lanes on K Street NW near 22nd Street NW from 10:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013. Eastbound K Street NW will remain open during this closure.

This closure is required to allow crews to conduct repair and preservation work on the 22nd Street NW Bridge over K Street NW. Signed detours will be posted during the closure.

DETOUR

Westbound K Street NW traffic will be directed to enter the service roadway, proceed halfway around Washington Circle and then merge onto the westbound service roadway to K Street NW.

Dear PoPville – What’s Up with the Segway Tours in the Bike Lanes on Pennsylvania Ave?

Dear PoPville,

I’ve noticed an increasing number of large segway tours using/blocking/monopolizing the all-too-disrupted Pennsylvania Ave bike lanes. What I saw last week was just out of control — probably 5 groups on the blocks between the White House and the FBI building, forcing bicyclists out into the lanes as they stopped and circled up to chat.

Are segways even allowed on bike lanes?

Food Trucks Serving Lunch on Wednesdays outside the MLK Library at 901 G St, NW

Food for thought is taking on a whole new meaning this summer at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

For a limited time, members of the Food Truck Association of Metropolitan Washington will be serving up lunch on Wednesdays outside the library at 901 G Street NW. It’s the second year the food truck association and the library have partnered together for the weekly program, called Books & Bites.

District residents and downtown workers can grab lunch at the food trucks, relax at special seating just outside of the library and enjoy the library’s free WiFi and other services.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Food Truck Association again this summer,” said Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper. “Just like the different food trucks offer people variety, the Library offers something for everyone. I love seeing people finding good reads and good food at their Library.”

The trucks that will be parked at the library will be announced on Wednesday mornings using social media.

“Books & Bites at the Library helps draw new people to the library – some of whom may have not visited the beautiful building before – and make the area more active and vibrant,” said Doug Povich, chairman of the Food Truck Association of Metropolitan Washington.

GSA and Trump Organization Reach Deal on Old Post Office Lease

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced it has completed negotiations with the Trump Organization on a 60 year lease agreement to redevelop and manage the iconic Old Post Office building and annex on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. Under the agreement, $200 million of private sector funds will be invested to restore the 114 year old federal building and convert it into a luxury mixed-use development — Trump International Hotel, The Old Post Office, Washington D.C.– that will serve the local community, preserve the facility, and save taxpayer dollars. The pending agreement now moves to Congress for a review period of 30 in-session days.

Roc Bar Closes at 1426 L St, NW

Tough times continue for the space at 1426 L St, NW.  Roc Bar had only opened up in the space (next to Post Pub) back in Sept. 2012. Prior to that The Reserve was evicted from the building in June 2011. Not sure how long Roc Bar has been closed but I just noticed the for lease sign on the building.  Maybe it’s the Formstone looking front…

Golden Triangle BID Sponsors Five Outdoor Movies at the Heurich House Museum

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) will offer a series of outdoor movies this summer in partnership with The Heurich House Museum. The “Golden Cinema Series” will be shown in the courtyard of the Heurich House Museum on Fridays, June 7- July 12. All films are free and open to the public. Gates to the Heurich House Museum courtyard will open at 8 p.m. and the movies will start at sunset.

Films selected for the “Golden Cinema Series” were produced during the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood,’ including three films from the 1940’s and two films from the 1950’s. The five features are: Casablanca on June 7, Rear Window on June 14, Some Like It Hot on June 28, Yankee Doodle Dandy to be shown on July 5 in honor of the Independence Day weekend, and, The Philadelphia Story on July 12. Iconic personalities from Hollywood, including Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant, star in the movies.
