A reader reports at 11pm last night:

“There is a man who was screaming on the 1400 block of Harvard St NW. No one knows what he was screaming but multiple neighbors called the cops and one neighbor, who is a doctor, stabilized him. 911 hung up on my cousin who called to let them know there was a man unconscious on the street, then took 11 minutes for them to get here. I started directing traffic down the alley instead of through the people.”

Alleged package thief in the 1400 Block of Girard St NW

“Dear PoPville,

This guy got into our building in the 1400 Block of Girard St NW on Friday April 17th at approximately 12:10 pm and was able to hide in the building for about 10 minutes. He ripped apart the boxes you see after taking them to the back of the building. He stole one of the packages.

It’s most alarming that he hid in the building upstairs while people exited/walked through the lobby. The cop said he was clearly a pro because of the hat and backpack but that he really lingered carefully looking through packages, which is unusual.

We’ve filed a police report. Some of our residents were able to identify that he’s wearing ironman gear. Any leads are appreciated.”

fundraiser

“Dear PoPville,

Very sad… At the Panera in Columbia Heights when you enter, there’s an RIP picture posted of Quanika LaBoard, one of their employees. People have been double takes as they come in. She was one of the most well-known and energetic employees they had, so it’s been a real shock to everyone. Her passing was sudden, tragic, and completely unexpected; she’s left behind 3 young children, and unfortunately, no immediate family.

Panera is helping out, and I wanted to let everyone know that the family has also started a fundraiser to help with her homegoing service.”

This Is What Happens to Unclaimed Bodies in Washington, DC:

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) holds the body for 30 days, after which point any unclaimed bodies are handed over to DC–based W. H. Bacon Funeral Home for cremation and subsequent burial.

W. H. Bacon Funeral Home agreed to place cremains in properly labeled containers that would be interred in permanently marked graves fewer than 50 miles outside of DC.

But that’s not actually what happens to unclaimed bodies in DC. In reality, the cremated remains are buried in an unmarked grave in a Baltimore cemetery; several hundred more from years past are located in a similar unmarked gravesite in Alexandria, Virginia.
