Starting around 6:30/7am this morning I got a ton of inquiries asking about:
“HELICOPTERS AGAIN AT 13th AND SHEPHERD MORNING EDITION?!?!!”
“there’s a helicopter circling with a search light on 10th Street between Quincy and Spring and around the Raymond Rec Center”
“For the second time in 3 days. This time beginning at 6:30 am. Still going at 7:30”
“I can hear them repeatedly flying over at Sherman and Park. I’ve heard them pass over at least 10 times”
MPD tells me: “it was US Park Police who was in the area executing a search warrant.”
From MPD Monday:
“Earlier today members of the 5th District responded to several calls for sounds of gunshots in the Unit Block of R St NE. Officers recovered 5 cartridges casings during a canvass of the area. No victims or damaged property were located. Anyone with any information regarding this matter are urged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or via text at 50411.”

11th and Park Road, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I believe it must have slipped off at or around the northwest corner of Park Road NW and 11th Street NW (outside of Meridian Pint). I’m crushed by the loss of this very sentimental item and if by some miracle one of your readers finds it I would be eternally grateful if they could notify you [[email protected]] or return it to Meridian Pint. It is a tungsten wedding band with a subtle rose gold inlay. There is some sort of manufacturer’s mark on the inside but otherwise no markings. Thank you!”

“Heard 10 gunshots at about 8:20pm. was on the corner of Columbia rd and 14th and the shots sounded close. People ran out of Apt complex. cops swarmed 2 min later.”
MPD reported:
“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW. An adult male has been transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower extremities.
Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”
14th and Irving Street, NW
I’ve been getting tons of inquiries asking for updates on the coming Columbia Heights Wawa. I’m told that building permits have finally been issued and “hard construction” begins after the holidays. If all goes according to plan they should be open by May 1st.

Thanks to Wendy for sending word that Columbia Heights’ new Old Navy had opened last night in DC USA. I know it’s not a local cilantro purveyor that some have been pining for but still pretty good news.
