901 7th Street, NW – actually located on I St just east of 7th

Back in Feb. 2012 we learned that Dangerously Delicious Pies would be opening in Penn Quarter/Chinatown at 901 7th Street, NW. I originally thought they’d be located on 7th Street side but now I realize the space is actually on I St just east of 7th.

In Feb. a Douglas Development press release anticipated an opening in April 2012. That time frame was a bit ambitious but in the interim Dangerously Delicious Pies was able to open a 2nd location in the food court of Union Station.

Now a permit for a prepared food shop at 901 7th St, NW was recently issued:

The folks from Dangerously Delicious Pies tell me that build out should take about 4-6 weeks so they’re hoping to open around Christmas time! Awesome.

Dangerously Delicious Pies also has a location at 1339 H St, NE.  You can see their menu here.

The upper patio of the Poste courtyard has been transformed into a wintery cocktail lounge, complete with seasonal libations, fondue, fire pits and blankets. Lead bartender Jason Wiles has created a selection of seasonal sips that are available exclusively on the patio. Select drinks include: the Smokin’ Bacon Hot Chocolate made with bacon-infused Bulleit bourbon, hot cocoa and a homemade bacon cayenne marshmallow; and the Flip You For Real made with Maker’s Mark, apple cider, caramel and a whole egg. There will also be a selection of dark spirits and fortified wines for sipping. Chef Dennis Marron has created a menu of fondues, soups, and other bar bites available for sharing on the patio. The S’mores Fondue ($14), made with melted milk chocolate with graham crackers and marshmallows makes for a fun twist on traditional s’mores. Also available will be Classic Cheese Fondue ($17), melted comté cheese served with cubed bread, apples and sausage. Guests can also indulge in a classic Dark Chocolate Fondue ($11) served with fruit. Seasonal soups, escargots, mussels, mac and cheese, and selections from the raw bar are also available.

The official launch of the cour de l’hiver will be held on November 3rd from 4pm to 8pm in the courtyard, during which guests can lounge with blankets and heaters and sample $5 specially-priced cocktails from Wiles and complimentary bites from the courtyard menu by Chef Marron with live music from the Joe Chiocca band.

After the jump is the full cour de l’hiver cocktail menu: (more…)

Wagamama has long topped the list of biggest retail/restaurant teases since we first heard they were coming to the former Olson’s bookstore back in 2009. City Paper’s Jessica Sidman got confirmation this morning:

“Wagamama director of marketing Ingrid Williamson confirms to Y&H today that the restaurant will not be opening a restaurant in D.C. as originally planned.”

Fear not Penn Quarter – Daikaya Ramen Shop is still coming nearby.

From a press release:

Douglas Development is pleased to announce that Lime Fresh Mexican Grill will occupy 2,000 square feet in the Douglas Development-owned property at 726 7th Street in Penn Quarter. The space is currently occupied by Potbelly Sandwich Works and is scheduled to open as Lime Fresh Mexican Grill in mid-2013.

Potbelly will close its doors before the opening of Lime Fresh in mid-2013.

Lime Fresh recently opened up another location in Columbia Heights in the DC USA.

For those who work nearby – do you prefer a Lime Fresh Mexican Grill over a Potbelly here?
