The Craigslist ad says:

“Available Jan. 1. Fully renovated. Convenient NW location.
Nice clean quiet secure English Basement apartment.
Sunny open living room and kitchen, separate bedroom.
Central air, tile floors, WASHER/DRYER, newer appliances.
Front and back entrances, with motion lighting.
Tenant pays electricity and 1/2 cable.
One month security deposit. References/credit check. No application fee.”

First time I’ve seen a craigslist ad for a location in this area without mention of Rustik and/or Big Bear Cafe…

Props to Caroline for finding this one. Does $1200 sound reasonable for this 1 bedroom english basement?

In addition to all the cool art – it’s your first chance to drink alcohol at Big Bear!

From an email:

“Get your Art! Drink your Rum and Cider! Buy your Christmas Trees!
The Bloomingdale Holiday Art Market Returns!

“Dear PoP,

I am planning to move out of my house and intend to rent it. I was wondering if you would ask your readers their opinion on what they think fair market rental value would be.

It is a 2 BR/2.5 BA house in Bloomingdale near Big Bear Cafe on First Street. It is 1200 sq. feet (two levels) and has all new wood floors, a renovated eat-in kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, a separate bar area, 2-car driveway parking, w/d, and CAC. I have looked around Craigslist but am having difficulty getting a good sense of the market.”

I enjoy seeing what folks think are fair rates. I’m thinking somewhere in the ballpark of $2750. What do you guys think?

Thanks to all who sent word about this development. Washington City Paper’s Lydia DePillis broke the news Saturday announcing Big Bear (1st and R St, NW) had received its liquor license despite an ANC protest, though:

“Big Bear didn’t get everything it wanted: The Board, while dismissing most of the protestants’ concerns about trash, noise, and zoning, confined the Cafe’s hours to midnight on weekends and 11:00 p.m. on weekdays, with outdoor music to cease at 9:00 p.m.”

You can read the full ABRA announcement here.

DePillis also noted that the owner was surprised by the quick announcement and therefore “has no immediate plans to start serving alcohol”.

Great news! Do you think those hours are fair?

I wonder how long the lines are gonna get…

Here is the early look from the Post’s Tom Siestma:

“Neighbors tell me they’re thrilled to finally have somewhere to sip and sup. I’d be more excited if the food had more finesse. Mushrooms that smacked of the canned variety lessened the appeal of a thin-crusted pizza billed as Ward Five, and a grilled cheese sandwich, while generous with Gruyere, could have used more seasoning. (Pickled carrot sticks add a colorful touch to the plate, however.) Braised lamb with pita tastes one-note; like the sandwich, it needs a flavor injection.”

Though he was a big fan of the baby octopus and happy hour prices.

Personally, I had a pizza that was delicious. And for those who are a bit more enthusiastic, I’m happy to report that Rustik located at 84 T St. NW (by Rhode Island and 1 St, NW) will soon be offering brunch in the next couple of weeks.

This sounds like it could be a good option for roomates. What do you think – does $2050 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/1 bath?

I make it no secret that Bloomingdale is my favorite ‘hood in DC. Given that we’re at the lowest level of active listing inventory in the neighborhood since I’ve been tracking stats for over nine years, it looks like a lot of people are in agreement.

Continues after the jump. (more…)
