Duplex Diner is located at 2004 18th Street, NW. We judged it back in Dec. ’09.

The owner writes:
“We would like to introduce the Adams Morgan community to Instant Noodles. This modern interpretation of traditional Vietnamese and Thai cuisine blends spices, fresh herbs and vegetables with succulent meats, dipping sauces and broths to create a burst of aromatic flavors. The menu includes broth and soup-based dishes such as Pho, green curry and Mi Do Bien, rice and vermicelli dishes such as the favored pad thai as well as Vietnamese sandwiches and salads. Instant Noodle is sure to be a hit for both the lunch and dinner crowd.”
We’ll be sure to revisit for a proper judging in a few weeks.

$1218 sound right?
A reader sends in this disturbing video (on many levels) from what looks like the 2300 block of 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan.

“Dear PoP,
I live across the street from this unit so I’ve been watching it go up. I think they are turning it into a pop up, which is disappointing.”
We took a look a couple of weeks ago but that was before the pop up. I think it’s still hard to tell at this stage if it’ll be an eyesore or a tasteful pop up. Since it looks like it’s a bit recessed I’ll remain cautiously optimistic that this may turn out ok. We’ll revisit in a couple of months to see how it turns out.

“Dear PoP,
I was wondering if you had any information on the soccer field in Walter Pierce Park. I walked by yesterday, Monday June 20th, and noticed the large fence surrounding the field. I was wondering if they were planning on laying down new grass or any other type of renovation?”
Mindy Moretti of the Friends of Walter Pierce Park committee tells me:
“They are indeed resodding the field. They will putting some in-fill dirt in and then planting bermuda grass. They are also fixing the irrigation system, which is part of the reason they had so many difficulties with the field the first time they redid it. At this point, as far as I know, there are no plans to put a fence around it (thank goodness). According to DPR, it will be back online in spring 2012.”
