A few weeks ago I tweeted that I found a happy hour offering Bell’s Two Hearted Ale for under $3. Unfortunately for me, it is located in Old Town Alexandria (where I don’t get to, too often) at the Union Street Public House. I’m a huge fan of Bell’s brewery beers. I’m also a huge fan of Mandu. My friend Sean send this awesome news – Mandu offers Bell’s Oberon for $3.00 4-7pm everyday. They also have Founders IPA and Oskar Blues Pilsner. While not as awesome as Two Hearted Ale, that’s still a pretty sweet deal. Mandu has two locations at 1805 18th Street, NW and 453 K Street, NW. Awesome.

It’s not too often we hear about restaurants celebrating 30 years. I feel like it is even more rare in Adams Morgan. Congratulations to El Tamarindo:
Jose & Betty Reyes were two of the thousand of Salvadorans to arrive in Washington D.C. during the Salvadoran migration in the early 1980’s. Like many immigrants, they came with the vision of accomplishing the American Dream.
In 1982, the inexperienced yet ambitious couple established El Tamarindo Restaurant in Adams Morgan. Through hard work, the expertise and help of amazing friends and employees, and the support of the community, El Tamarindo became a very successful & staple restaurant in the Washington metropolitan area.
Nearly thirty years later, El Tamarindo continues to be a family owned & operated establishment providing “home-style Mexican & Salvadoran Cuisine” to everyone from local workers to politicians and everyone in between.
Our food, drinks, service and ambiance is something everyone can truly enjoy. Join us for a tart margarita, a perfect pupusa and simply a wonderful experience. Bring your family, co-workers, friends or yourself. We kindly invite you to become a part of the El Tamarindo Family!

Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up about the new signage and help wanted sign that just went up for Sakuramen. Back in Jan. 2012 I mentioned that a new Ramen shop might be coming to the former Jumbo Slices and Kabob space at 2441 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan. Looks like it’s the real deal and close to opening. Their website says:
We’re just a couple guys who are passionate about ramen, which we feel is the ultimate comfort food, inspiring childhood memories of sharing with family and friends. Our sole focus is to create the best ramen on the planet, without using artificial flavorings of any kind, sourced from pure bone broth coupled with the freshest ingredients available.
We do NOT favor any particular style or cultural influence when it comes to our ramen dishes. With an unbridled approach to culinary creativity, we strive to deliver to you, our Customer, a unique dining experience that highlights a fusion of diverse flavors from across the globe. From ramen houses in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul, to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, we are pleased to see that others love ramen as much as we do… and so we are especially proud to open our doors in Washington DC, in the heart of a city we love to call home.
You can see some photos of their ramen here. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,
I saw this guy “Fiddling on the Roof” across from the Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan last night around 7:30. I chatted with his roommate who was down on the street, and he said he will be playing on his roof right before sunset every Sunday from now on, weather permitting. Pretty cool!”
Awesome.

Back in late Aug. 2011 we learned that a Smoothie King was coming to the old Alberto’s pizza space at 2438 18th St NW in Adams Morgan. While they’ve been open for a few weeks already, today, on April 17th they are giving away free smoothies for their grand opening from 10am – 6pm. Nice.
