“The record store and cell phone carrier at the corner of Georgia and Florida Avenue NW (U Street) has been playing D.C’s indigenous Go-Go Music since the late 1990s. Neighbors in newly constructed condos across the street pressured the city and then T-mobile, to force the owners to stop playing the music. (more…)

“The Pub & The People (Corner of N Capitol St & R St NW) has started doing free, live, local music!

We’ve been working with the badass Ben Tufts (a DC musician that has been involved for decades in the local music scene) and 7DrumCity to put together really great one/two person acts here at The Pub. We even learned how to do sound engineering, so we can make it sound really really nice.

“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to you to let you know of this amazing music community that started one year ago and has flourished. They just had their one year anniversary and I heard the story for the first time. Apparently two Mt. Pleasant neighborhood people noticed an unused piano at Purple Patch, and they approached the owner, and one thing led to another and they started Open Piano nights. It’s a amazing community of pianists that come play a variety of tunes, from ragtime, to jazz, or classical. Anyone who wants to come play, plays. I just want the rest of D.C. to know about this great piano community.”

Bach’s complete cello suites live from the National Cathedral, presented by Washington Performing Arts in memory of Isaac Stern.

For more than 20 years, Norway has presented a Christmas tree to the people of Washington, in recognition of its strong friendship with the United States and in gratitude for America’s assistance during and after World War II.
