Statement on the closure of Eighteenth Street Lounge after 25 Years

Washington, D.C., has been the home of Eighteenth Street Lounge for the past 25 years, and I have had the great fortune to deliver unique nightlife experiences in a city that I love. The well-being of our patrons, and staff has always been a leading priority for the ESL team, and given the current uncertainty of when we can welcome patrons back safely, we have decided to close the space indefinitely. “Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts Announces Cancellation of 2020 Summer Performance Seasons at Filene Center, Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, and The Barns at Wolf Trap

Today in a public statement, Wolf Trap Foundation’s President and CEO, Arvind Manocha, announced the cancellation of all 2020 summer performances due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus throughout the Washington DC metro area. “It is with profound sadness that I announce that we are cancelling the Summer 2020 concert season. For the first time in nearly 50 years, the Filene Center and Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods at Wolf Trap National Park and The Barns at Wolf Trap will not host live performances from May through September. The continued health and well-being of the Wolf Trap community of patrons, artists, and staff are of paramount importance to us. Concern for the welfare of all makes summer gatherings for performances unfeasible.” (more…)

The video features several National Philharmonic musicians playing multiple parts of Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” alongside photographs of DC, Maryland and New York City hospital staff working inside COVID-19 units. Thanks to Jeff for sending the new window signage at old Palena space in Cleveland Park. Back in January we reported that School of Rock would be coming here:

“For over a decade, School of Rock has taught guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and keys through an innovative performance-based method. Students are put through a series of private lessons and group rehearsals and then get to show off what they learn on real rock stages to real rock audiences.”
