Jennifer sends the photo above yesterday afternoon:
“These were taken from North Cap and N (ish), looking south.”
From the NoMa BID:
“A new mural will soon appear at the top of the AVA NoMaapartment building’s western wall. The artwork, by American artist James Bullough (jamesbullough.com), who lives and works in Berlin and has several murals around the District, will be completed in early October.”

Updates when the mural is finished.
“Dear PoPville,
Sure, it’s always great to have public art, but I feel like it’s kind of a missed opportunity for something vibrant and by a local artist…
Interested to see what the community has to say. The comments on Instagram are generally positive.”
According to Union Market’s Instagram:
“We are so excited to partner with @hirshorn to present the world debut of a new large-scale public-art mural by artist @yokoonoofficial, on the 6th Street wall of Union Market. Created exclusively for Washington, DC, Ono’s new work “RELAX. YOUR HEART IS STRONGER THAN WHAT YOU THINK!” compels us to step outside of our everyday lives and consider the power of the heart over the restrictions of the mind.”

WAMU reported:
“But the mural isn’t intended to honor Lincoln. That image, in tones of gray, black and white, is almost an afterthought.
Muralist Garin Baker said that the foreground features African-American men quarrying the white Georgia marble used to build Lincoln’s statue, as well as a poem by Frederick Douglass.”

Thanks to David Ross for sending:
“This mural is by Nils Westergard and is at corner of Shannon Place and V St. SE in Anacostia. Her name is Charneice Fox Richardson. She’s a DC filmmaker. She also lived in Anacostia as a kid. I wanted it to be of someone local.
It’s all part of a series I’m doing called, If Shannon Could Sing. The main street that runs through is called Shannon Place so it’s a play off of that name. It’ll be an art/music pop up at 1102 V St. SE. Many, many programs coming for the next few months in Anacostia. Exhibits, concerts (free and paid), movie series (free), food series.”
Ed. Note: Will post schedule for event series when it becomes available.

Mural in progress by Jarrett Ferrier. Props to Stephen Voss and Charlene Kannankeril for making it happen.
“Charlene and I worked on the DCCAH grant application, soliciting opinions on subject matter from the community, meeting with the Tenleytown Historical Society and presenting at the ANC3E meeting. Jarrett came up with a rendering incorporating the top votes on subjects and then took community feedback and revised it before we submitted the grant application. We were thrilled to receive the grant and are thrilled the that the building’s owners have allowed Jarrett to use the entire south-facing wall.
Jarrett will be working on the mural most weekdays until completion around the end of September. We are working with area schools to make field trips out to the mural site and encourage residents to visit as well – 4425 Wisconsin Avenue NW (Han Cleaners/Envy Nails building). We’re putting up some information on this website and, closer to the completion of the mural, it will go live with interviews, photos and other information about the mural and its subjects.”
