“Star Trek Beyond, from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot, will open at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater and at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center’s Airbus IMAX Theater on July 22, with early evening shows on July 21. Both museums will also be exhibiting costumes from the film. The National Air and Space Museum will exhibit Capt. James T. Kirk’s Starfleet uniform featuring the iconic Command Gold tunic with black pants and Starfleet pin. The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center will display Commander Spock’s USS Franklin uniform and Lt. Uhura’s Starfleet uniform. All three costumes were worn by the actors during the filming of Star Trek Beyond and will be on display near the theater box offices during the run of each film.

In addition to the costumes, all visitors can now enjoy the studio model of the Starship Enterprise from the original Star Trek series at the National Air and Space Museum’s Milestones of Flight Hall. The exhibit is a new addition to the hall after its nearly two-year restoration. (more…)

A personal story about the struggle to achieve social, economic and environmental change during the worst recession in a generation, “City of Trees” captures the tension-filled last six months of a two-year grant cycle for Washington D.C.’s nonprofit organization Washington Parks & People, and the close-out of a $2.7 million stimulus grant.

We’ve continued to find that during this difficult moment for our country, the film has been helping to create spaces to have hard, honest and constructive conversations about how to make lasting change in our communities.”

“With Father’s Day coming up on Sunday, June 19, what better way to celebrate by spending quality time with Dad at a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan? Star Trek has had a profound influence on the entertainment industry and culture alike, making for a unique Father’s Day experience. Part of Smithsonian Theaters’ celebration of 50 years of Star Trek, this event provides the opportunity to view an iconic film in an IMAX theater with a state-of-the-art projection system installed earlier this year.

The screening will take place at the Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater at the National Air and Space Museum at 4:15pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $13.50 for children under 12.
