From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Bowser and DC Health announced the opening of four new COVID Centers with four additional locations opening Monday, January 24. The COVID Centers represent the District’s long-term commitment to expanding access to COVID-19 vaccinations, boosters, and testing opportunities by providing fixed locations with longer hours.

“Getting vaccinated, getting boosted, getting tested, and wearing our masks is how we will get through this,” said Mayor Bowser. “With the COVID Centers, we are doubling down on our commitment to equity and accessibility and ensuring we have the systems in place to support a long-term response that can be dialed-up or down and quickly modified to meet our community’s needs.”

At the COVID Centers, individuals will have access to vaccinations, boosters, and take-home rapid antigen tests as well as a new walk-up testing opportunity which will allow residents to administer and register a PCR test themselves.

COVID Centers in Wards 1, 2, 7, and 8 will open today at 1:00 p.m. and stay open until 8:00 p.m. COVID Centers in Wards 3, 4, 5 and 6 will open Monday, January 24. More information on the four sites opening next week will be shared later this week. All sites will be open six days a week, and sites will rotate off days so that on any day of the week multiple COVID Centers will be open across DC. The schedules for the four sites opening today are listed below. (more…)

Thanks to Allison for sending: “I just wanted to share that I had a super easy time getting my Pfizer booster through GW! You can pre-register online, however they easily accommodate walk-ins.

I was checked-in immediately around 9:45 and boosted right after, then out the door after the 15min safety period!

I had previously tried to book a booster online via One Medical (no appointments) and CVS/Walgreens (two-week lead time) so just wanted to spread the news since it may be a bit more efficiently run than a city site.

Thanks and happy holidays!”

Regarding testing other readers write:

“FYI I got an exposure alert so I tried to get tested at the Sherman Ave nw firehouse and they said they ran out of their tests today and yesterday so it seems like testing demand is way back up. Don’t run up right at 7:30 like I just tried to if you need one!

Might want to let folks know the demand is way up! Guessing a mix of omicron + holiday travel”

“Just wanted to make sure people are aware of Curative testing sites since they’re not on the DC testing website but they have a ton of appointments available, including same day at a bunch of them. I went yesterday at 1 and they were super friendly and I got my results back already at 6:30 this morning. Thanks!”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Following approval from the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health, led by Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, urged 16- and 17-year-olds who received the Pfizer vaccine before June 9, 2021 to get a booster shot.
