“The District’s reported data for December 10-12, 2021 includes 690 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 69,392.

The District reported that two additional residents lost their lives due to COVID-19.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m flying for the first time in two years next week, to visit family in Canada for Christmas. I need a PCR within 24 hours of departure. A dual citizen acquaintance recommended Same Day in Georgetown, but it’s $$$. I have an appointment Thursday at a CVS in SW, because apparently they do them for free, and I needed to test before a gathering that night, and thought it would be a good trial run. “Today, DC Health confirmed four unrelated cases of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) of COVID-19 in the District.

The first case is in an adult female who traveled domestically to Florida and New York. She had been fully vaccinated and was eligible for the booster vaccine but had not received it yet. All close contacts have been contacted and have been provided guidance by the DC Health Contact Trace Force.

The second case is an adult female who traveled domestically during the Thanksgiving holiday to Maryland. She had been fully vaccinated and her booster vaccine status is unknown. All close contacts have been contacted.

The third case is an adult male with no known travel. He had been fully vaccinated and his booster vaccine status is unknown. There were no known exposures or close contacts.

The fourth case is an adult female who traveled domestically during the Thanksgiving holiday to Virginia. She had been fully vaccinated and her booster vaccine status is unknown. All close contacts have been contacted and have been provided guidance by the DC Health Contact Trace Force. (more…)

“Following approval from the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health, led by Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, urged 16- and 17-year-olds who received the Pfizer vaccine before June 9, 2021 to get a booster shot. The booster shot will become available to eligible 16- and 17-year-olds starting Thursday, December 9, at all District-operated library walk-up sites, pop-up sites, and pediatric clinics listed on vaccinate.dc.gov.
