14th and U Street, NW

Been getting a lot of queries about the status of the 14th Street Streetscape project:

“The 14th st streetscape project has been going on forever. When will it end?”

Originally anticipated completion was “May 2019” but now the whole thing from Thomas Circle to Florida Ave is expected to finish in “Fall 2019”.

The floating bus stops and protected bike section down by Thomas Circle is looking good: (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending: “Was just at gaslight and Sunday is [was] the last day. They are closing for a renovation.”

I spoke with the owner to make sure it was indeed closing for a renovation and not a “renovation”. Fortunately it is indeed a proper renovation, they are “integrating one of the retail bays that’s under the rolldown door.” If all goes well they’ll reopen September 18th. Stay tuned.

It’s been a minute – so let’s tip a few cold ones back and catch up in person. It’s time for our summer happy hour! This one will be upstairs at Solly’s (11th and U St, NW) from 6pm-10pm on Friday August 9th. Please drop by if you can and learn how I really feel about turning right on red. Also if you are a Patreon supporter and are owed a t-shirt you can pick it up here!! Looking forward to catching up. (more…)

From an email:

“I represent the family of a recent college grad who was critically injured in a bicycle crash on Sunday, June 23rd at about 11:30 am at the intersection of 11 and U Street, NW. As a result of the crash, he fractured his skull and sustained a traumatic brain injury – and he was just released from Howard Hospital days ago after undergoing a craniotomy and spending significant time in the ICU.

Now that he is finally out of the hospital, his family is trying to identify any witnesses who might have more information about the crash.”
