“Dear PoP,

As an area resident (14 and W) I want to bring to your attention a local establishment that I think could really use some publicity. The Collage Cafe

The new Cricket store at the corner of 14th and U has opened. The guy in the photo out front was awesome. As I was setting up the photo he hustled out of the store because he wanted to get in the photo. He put a huge smile on my face.

And in less pleasant news.

Back in January we looked at the promising Zizi Boutique. Folks were happy that a cool non bar option had opened on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Sadly, it was short lived as the store is now closed.

Back in April I mentioned that Gori Cafe had opened up at 1113 V Street, NW. I accidentally posted their photo last week to the wrong post but what I wanted to say was that the sign they recently put outside is phenomenal:

And I mean that very sincerely. For those that live in the area and are looking to support local businesses – look no further. And $2 for a domestic beer from 4-9pm is incredible. I think I need to have a happy hour here – We’re long overdue…

This house is located at 2014 15th Street, NW:

The flier says:

“A traditional brick exterior elegantly surrounds the sophisticated, contemporary & renovated interior of this stately Victorian just 2 blocks to Metro & easy walking distance to the heart of U Street, Logan & Dupont. 2 car parking, a spectacular master suite, fine fixtures & finishes, hardwood floors, a gorgeous deck & yard, & a fabulous & legal rental unit completes this special offering.”

More info found here and a virtual tour found here.

Wow, this is a pretty cool house. The inside has this modern open vibe going on. Do you like the renovation? It is yours for $1,199,000. Enjoy the photos, they are pretty sweet.

“Please take a look at the southeast corner of 7th St and Q Street NW…an abandoned liquor store has sat there for years.”

And while we’re looking at abandoned old liquor stores I’d also like to nominate one on the corner of 9th and U Street, NW:

These are both prime properties that one only hopes will be fixed up soon. I really hope they are being taxed at the vacant rate…

We were saddened to learn of Moojo Ken’s closing. It seems next door neighbor Habitat will be moving into the space. I’m not sure if Habitat is expanding or will vacate its current space. Stay tuned…
