This property is a former Horse’s Ass Award nominee. Thanks to a reader for sending the great news (albeit a bit skeptically…):

“This bears watching since it may be the currently dilapidated building featured as a Horse’s Ass award… I’ll believe it when I see it though! haha”

On Monday the new owners of the ice cream spot, formerly Maggie Moos sought your help in a coming up with a new name. Well, you came up with a good one and they’ve enthusiastically embraced it. The new spot will be called U Scream Ice Cream.

As mentioned earlier, the folks also own the recently opened Aroma Bakery & Market across the street on U. Well they also seek your help in how to make the spot better. What would you like to see improved? More breakfast options? More sandwiches? More bread? You name it and they’ll definitely listen.

So cool that they’ve renamed the spot U Scream Ice Cream! Nice work.

Updated with current photo.

Many have probably noticed that the sign from Maggie Moo’s located at 1301 U St NW has come down. I just learned that the new owners, who are keeping it an ice cream spot, are the same folks behind Aroma Bakery and Market on U Street which we looked at last week. The owners, Steve and Sose, notified me this weekend that they are the new owners of the spot as of Monday. And they are looking for a new name. So if you have a good suggestion for an ice cream store on U Street please leave it in the comments section.

I got an interesting press release from Bogdan Builders yesterday. They write:

“Bogdan Builders has established itself as a leader in Metro Area condominium sales, according to independent sales figures in the McWilliams Ballard Mid-Year 2009 Washington Metropolitan Area Condominium Report. With its winning position in Metro Area condominium sales, Bogdan Builders dominated the Logan Circle U-Street submarket for new product sales beginning in 2008.

As other projects in the Logan Circle and U-Street submarkets struggled to gain traction in the marketplace, the phenomenal sales pace of Bogdan Builders

This was posted to the window on the pizza place on U Street between 13th and 14th (near the sweet new murals). Was there an incident (dang can’t remember the name of this spot near Polly’s) at this pizza spot that I haven’t heard about?

“Dear PoP,

As an area resident (14 and W) I want to bring to your attention a local establishment that I think could really use some publicity. The Collage Cafe

The new Cricket store at the corner of 14th and U has opened. The guy in the photo out front was awesome. As I was setting up the photo he hustled out of the store because he wanted to get in the photo. He put a huge smile on my face.

And in less pleasant news.

Back in January we looked at the promising Zizi Boutique. Folks were happy that a cool non bar option had opened on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Sadly, it was short lived as the store is now closed.
