I’m gonna be honest this house blew me away. This is one of the few houses I’ve seen that is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.  I’m not sure if it’s the built in bookshelves or the dope roof deck but this is one of my new favorites. What do you guys think of the house itself? It’s yours for $1,225,000.

JOJO Restaurant and Bar is located at 1518 U Street, NW. Here’s another spot that I’ve walked by a million times but haven’t checked out yet. So in addition to the food, is this a good spot to listen to music? Would you consider it more of a bar than a restaurant or vice versa? Any fans out there?

We’ve judged the Moderno located at 12th just south of U St, NW. We’ve even discussed what they mean by European style residences. I swear I’m not picking on them, I actually think the building looks pretty cool, but what’s up with their Remy Martin ads on the first floor? Are they just waiting to get retail in? I actually thought the first floor was just the lobby. If you lived in the building would you be upset at having a huge ad like this on your building?

Normally I don’t like to post homes without pictures but I think this one deserves an exception. It is a really unusual home in a great location. Obviously, it’s going to need a lot of work but I’m curious what you think about the price. It says it was assessed for $917,000 in 2008. The asking price is $775,000. Do you think that seems like a good deal given all the work it likely needs? Think it will be bought and divided into condos?

It looks like the former home of Project 4 Art Gallery located at 903 U Street, NW is slated to become a wine bar. The liquor application says it will be called Dickson Wine, which you can see in the photo above is the name of the building.

The application also says there will be light fare, charcuterie, and a DJ or small band with an occupancy of 75. Looks like this section of U Street is really starting to pick up with the addition of Nellie’s, Lounge of Three and now this.

Tina visited The Greek Spot, located at 2017 11th Street, NW, back in Nov. ’08 and gave it pretty high reviews. I’d like to take another look though because I ate there the other night and I wasn’t blown away. I seem to recall that there is a gyro place somewhere between Farragut North and Dupont South on Connecticut Ave that is supposed to have incredible gyros. Anyone know what I’m talking about. Back to the Greek Spot, did they just have an off night or is it as good as Tina says?

A while ago I got a vague email telling me about potential plans for this space but I hadn’t heard anything else until this morning. And wow, are these interesting plans. The spot has been leased and will turn into Kindred Bar and Lounge. But it has a very interesting mission:

Have you ever found yourself wondering why that bottle of Miller Light at the bar costs the same as a six-pack at the liquor store? Or, why you have to pay so much more for a martini that only takes a minute to shake when you’re at home? Well, the answer to those questions is pretty simple: Bars charge more than liquor stores because they have to pay more overhead: opening costs, renting a space, paying employees, and interest on bank loans. When you do the math, it all adds up.
These are hard times, and most of us are having to cut back on outings to bars and restaurants. Or, maybe we now find ourselves only going to places with specials.

Here’s where KINDRED Bar and Lounge comes in. My goal in launching this unique and inclusive tavern is to provide everyone with a great space and great prices. I’m not trying to get rich quick, or to open up a chain of KINDREDs across the country. What I am trying to do is simply to pool our resources to create a space that saves us money, brings us together (with inexpensive drinks!) and ultimately provides a unique space for the community — for us.
I can only do this with your help.

What a cool idea. The idea is the brainchild of Nikisha Carpenter. You can read more info and more importantly donate here. Think it’ll be possible to raise the dough during these tough times?
