The flier says:

“Gorgeous renovation. Large, open kitchen with granite, stainless steel appliances, new cabinets and new tile floor. Beautiful wood floors throughout. Large master bedroom. Both bathrooms are brand new and really shine. Wonderful patio with brick accents and parking for 2 cars. Very quiet street in a great neighborhood.”

You can find more info here and photos here.

$599,900 sound right for this 3 bed/1.5 bath?

The retail space formerly home to Bemmi Hardware at 12th and Florida Ave, NW has been locked up for ages. While it would be awesome to get a hardware store back in business at this point I’d be happy to see anyone open. Or, hell, even convert it to an apartment/living space.

Oct. 5th’s Friday Question of the Day asked, Should the Lincoln Theater become a Movie Theater Like the Avalon? Lot of people said yes.

From a Mayor’s media advisory:

Beginning January 1, 2012, oversight of the Lincoln Theatre [1215 U St, NW] will transfer from the U Street Theatre Foundation (USTF) to the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Oversight will include hiring a new executive director and developing a long-term sustainable business model for the historic U Street theatre.

A four-week partnership with Landmark Theatres is one of the first ventures the District will bring to the Lincoln Theatre with the release of the major motion picture, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Columbia Pictures on Wednesday, December 21.

Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up that Habitat is closing at 1512 U St, NW. I stopped in on Sunday and the owner said that he won’t be opening up a new location because he’s moving to Argentina.

For fans, you’ve still got a little time – they’ll be closing Jan. 30th.

Blackbyrd Warehouse, located next to Marvin at 2005 14th St, NW, opened up back in July ’11. I’m curious is folks have tried out the menu or if they like it more as a bar? If there are fans of the menu, any must order items? How does it compare to Marvin next door?

Press releases went out yesterday. From Rep. Norton:

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) has confirmed that the Kalorama post office (2300 18th St.), located in Ward 1, has been taken off the United States Postal Service (USPS) Expanded Access Study List and is no longer being considered for closure.

Last week, Norton announced that seven of the 19 D.C. post offices on the list for possible closure had been removed, and USPS announced this week that it would delay closing or consolidating any post offices until May 2012.

CM Graham wrote:

At a Ward 1 community meeting convened by USPS and myself, DC Postmaster Gerald Roane acknowledged some 2500 messages he had received to preserve both 14th/Wallach and Kalorama/Adams Morgan post offices.

Postmaster Roane then announced that Kalorama would be removed from the list of post offices “under study” and that it would not be considered for closing. Further good news, USPS is committed to finding a new U Street area location for the 14th St P.O. to replace the current location which is set for redevelopment. Until the end of the lease in February 2012, the Post Office will remain open. Hopefully by then we will have at least a temporary location in the U Street neighborhood.

Back in June ’10 we spoke about some scuttlebutt regarding a Trader Joe’s coming to 14th and U St, NW. At the time the Washington City Paper said “this particular bit of rumor is almost certainly baseless.” This afternoon the City Paper writes:

“Well, I’ve since heard from a very good source that Trader Joe’s is, in fact, headed for the massive new development just getting underway on the intersection’s [14th and U] southwest corner”

Sweet!

Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up. Back when Chidogo’s closed at the end of Oct. we learned that major construction would start in Dec. Looks like they’re on schedule. I had noticed that raze permits had been posted on the old storefronts (taco bell, foot locker, domino’s, el paraiso etc.) It’s gonna be wild to see this block transform. Can’t wait for the before and after photos. Well, here’s the before:
