My wife went down to the Foggy Bottom Trader Joe’s and was told by several employees that the new store is “officially” going in at 14th and U. Don’t know if that counts as “official official” — have had our hearts broken many times before — but thought I’d let everyone know just the same.
Well it won’t be “official official” until they issue a press release but there is near certainty that it will come to this project on 14th Street, NW just south of U Street. As they get closer to completing the construction, I’m sure we’ll be getting a number of press releases. Stay tuned.

Thanks to all who’ve sent emails spotting a liquor license application for Solly’s to expand into the former Madjet Ethiopian restaurant located next door at 1102 U St, NW. I’m guessing it’ll be about a month before the new space opens. We learned about some of the dining options back in March. Getting very close!

1818 14th Street, NW
Back in March 2012 we got confirmation that Ted’s Bulletin would be opening up a 2nd restaurant at 14th and Swann St, NW. We are now one step closer to adult milkshakes. And I’m having a hard time containing my joy reading a description of the place on their liquor license application:
“Upscale 1930’s Art Deco Diner offering comfort food and breakfast all hour of operation. Occupancy Load is 191.”
And on a side note: I wonder how long the Swann Auto Sales lot across the street from the future Ted’s will remain a lot before getting bought and developed?
Looks like CB Twelve-Twelve, which opened in Sept. 2011 in the former Almaz Ethiopian restaurant space at 1212 U St, NW has closed.
Back in Feb. we learned that a new tavern was coming to the former El Sol space at 1930 9th St, NW (south of U Street.) There had been no movement since then but this weekend a new liquor license application was posted repeating:
“New Tavern with an occupancy load of 122. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to include dancing and cover charge.”
