On top of the great news that Tacos El Chilango is opening up Aug. 5th at 1119 V Street, NW – comes news that next door neighbor Izakaya Seki is opening up this Sunday, July 29th! We took a sneak peek at the space last week.

Urban Essentials Moving from U Street to Logan Circle in September

Just got word from Urban Essentials that in September they’ll be moving from 1330 U St, NW, where they’ve been located for 12 years, to 1401 14th Street, NW in the former Reincarnations Furnishings space (14th and Rhode Island Ave, NW.) The president of Urban Essentials, David Schaefer, writes:

“I am very excited to be expanding to a space that will allow us twice as much showroom floor as we currently have and still be in the neighborhood.”

Shooting at 11th and U St, NW 245 Sat. Morning, Handgun Recovered, 3 Arrests Made

At approximately 245 this morning in the area of 11th and U Street , NW, there apparently were two groups of males arguing. Moments later, gunshots were heard and 2 adult females were found suffering from single gunshot wounds to the leg. Officers were able to respond and recover one handgun from the area and place 3 males under arrest in connection to the weapon. This weekend is our grand finale of our Eat Local First Week, a block party Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. at 1300 V Street, NW including 40 vendors who locally source, over 20 chef demonstrations, four bands, two local breweries and a mobile brick oven making delicious locally sourced pizza. The event is $15 and includes (4) $2.50 food and drink tickets.

Scuttlebutt: Tico Restaurant Coming to Louis Project at 14th and U St, NW?

Earlier in the month we learned that Trader Joe’s was really coming to the Louis project at 14th and U St, NW. Well, I just got more good news for the development. I hear that a restaurant from Boston called Tico is also planning on opening in the Louis retail space. From their Website:

A place that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Tico has a fun, sexy atmosphere, delicious and unpretentious food, amazing cocktails, cold beer, lots of tequila, cool music and great people watching.

Tico is all about your good time.

Conceived by Chef/Owner Michael Schlow, Tico is a new and exciting style of restaurant; American at its core, the menu is influenced by Schlow’s travels and love for Spain, Mexico and South America.

New Gym, ‘Work It’, Coming Soon to U Street

Work It! a Fitness Dance & Wellness Studio featuring zumba, aerobics, dance, tai chi, and pilates is coming to the space behind Lee’s Flower Shop at 11th and U Street, NW. Their website is still not live yet and construction is still going on in the space so stay tuned for more details as they get closer to opening.
