1300 Block of North Capitol St NW during a previous incident in 2016
From MPD Monday night:
“Earlier this evening members of the First District responded to a call for a stabbing in front of 1200 North Capitol Street NW. Police investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect had been involved in a verbal dispute while in front of the liquor store in the 1300 Blk of North Capitol St NW in the Fifth District. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the shoulder and abdomen. The suspect then fled the scene on foot into 1D. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Members of the Fifth District Detectives Unit are investigating. Anyone with information are encouraged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099.”

Understandably, we can be weary of strangers coming to our doors soliciting services. I wanted to share a positive experience to encourage you all to support a community member.
I live on 3rd st NW. For context, I live in a row house with a few roommates and out front yard isn’t very well kept. Last week a middle age African American man came up to the house around 5pm and offered to clean up the front yard and side walk. He said his name is Malik and that he is homeless and needed money for an appointment. He said he could do it right then, it would take him an hour and that he would charge $20 cash. I accepted his offer and went to get the cash from an ATM.
Malik did a great job cleaning my front yard. (more…)

Another: “I drove right by this in an uber – heard the shots and saw 3 men running on Columbia road, almost hit them with the car. Around 8pm.”

“Tonight [Saturday] at approximately 620 pm, officers from the First District responded to the 1100 block of 1st Street NW for sounds of gunshots. Once on seen, officers located an adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are currently investigating this incident. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.

“The Third District is currently investigating an assault that occurred in the 1600 block of New Jersey Avenue, NW. The victim has been transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The assault occurred inside of a residence so there should be no interruption of traffic flow in the area.

“Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and our detectives are making significant progress in our investigation. We anticipate being able to bring this case to closure.”

“Last night we were alerted to sounds of gunshots in the area of First Place and M St NW at approximately 20:45 hours. At the time we located two vehicles that appeared to be struck by gunfire, but no victims. However shortly after 2100 hours a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen responded to a local hospital for treatment. The wounds are not believed to be life threatening.

“Not sure how to put this, so let’s plunge right in. At about 3pm today, my roommate looked out her window, which faces into our back steps. For context, these steps are set back pretty far from the alley. To get to them, you’d have to make your way through some brush (we’re not great landscapers).
Anyway, when my roommate looked out the window, she saw two people in the midst of a very special hug. It was a doggy-style special hug, with the woman bent over the steps. I have photo evidence of this, which I know SEEMS creepy until you remember that two strangers were having sex AT MY HOUSE. I will spare you all these photos out of neighborly kindness. (more…)
