Update from MPD:

“Alert: Shooting in the 1200 Block of 7th Street NW. LOF B/M, black mask, black hoodie, black pants, white shoes, armed with (2) handguns. L/S in a Mercedes Benz, gray colored sedan w/ front end damage and unknown paper tags.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, November 4, 2022, in the 700 block of N Street, Northwest.

At approximately 4:44 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located a juvenile male victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 15-year-old Makai Green, of Northwest, DC. (more…)

“Michelin-starred Chef Elias Taddesse, executive chef and owner of DC’s acclaimed Mélange restaurant, will open his Ethiopian-style fried chicken restaurant on November 17th at 11 a.m. (1819 7th Street, NW)

The first 50 in-person guests on the 17th will get a free 2-piece Fried Doro Chicken Plate with Black Cumin Qibe Cornbread and Spiced Mac & Cheese.

Doro Soul Food infuses traditional American soul food with Ethiopian flavors. The restaurant is located in a virtual food hall at 1819 7th Street, NW, blocks from Howard University. Chef Taddesse says he plans to offer a catering menu in the near future.

“Panama’s premier specialty coffee company Café Unido is opening a second location in Northwest, Washington, D.C on Tuesday, November 1.

The second location was originally slated to be a Unido Roastery set nearby Latin lifestyle market, La Cosecha. While those plans are currently on hold, the team is taking up the space at 901 W NW.

“Dear PoPville,

We just had dinner Hanumanh, which I am pretty sure is the most underrated place in DC. It might be because they are only open three nights a week. It might be because they were closed during COVID. Or it might be because the menu posted online has only four dishes, (but in reality there were a ton of choices). Everything we got was AMAZING.
