From the legends at Ivy and Coney (1537 7th Street, NW):
Ivy and Coney, the Today Show’s favorite dive bar (see reference), is proud to celebrate Hanukkah with all of you again! Beginning Monday, December 5th through the end of the month, the Manischewitz shall flow, the dreidels shall spin, and fun will be had by most. Mercifully, Hanukkah gets going on a reasonable date this year (12/18), so we’ll be able to pregame well into the month. The year 5782 was another whopper, so let’s all toast 5783 not being another dumpster fire!
To properly honor the most dangerous of holidays, one where you both get to play with fire and drink dubiously colored wine, we’ve got
delicious latkes, sufgani-shots (jelly donut in shot form), and Manischewitz’s. Latkes, arguably the most important culinary creation since unleavened bread, will feature prominently as a reminder of the oil used to light the menorah, and the fact that fried foods truly are the tastiest. Each night we will be lighting the Hanukiyah at approximately 7:00 PM (December 18th through December 25th) and invite our guests to participate. Who knows, you may even find a present in your hands at the end of the night.
As always, we’ll be donating all proceeds from the sale of kosher wine to HIAS. In yet another year that’s been particularly difficult for refugees, we hope everyone will join us in throwing down some serious gelt to support new residents joining our community.
Most importantly, we will be unleashing the Messiah of Mayhem on our DC mishpocheh in the form of our state of the art shot menorah. The #ShotNorah (patent still pending) is designed for the enjoyment of eight guests at a time. The bartender will act as your shamash, pouring revelers a choice of shots on the “shotski”. No kvetching about stains on your clothes will be allowed. Don’t act like Ritchie from The Bear. What more can we say? Let’s make like a menorah and get lit!
