“an incessant buzzing sound around the intersection of 7th and S St NW for weeks?”

“Dear PoPville,

Help us solve a Shaw neighborhood mystery: there’s been an incessant buzzing sound around the intersection of 7th and S St NW for weeks now. It sounds like a swarm of cicadas but is constant day/night & can be heard in a several-block radius. What is it?!”

Others responded: “There’s a new, different unknown noise that started today a bit further south. (I’m on 13 and N). It’s a high pitched whine that cycles on and off. It’s so loud I can hear it thru double paned windows.”

“There is a loud screeching noise coming from Cleveland Elementary for the last several days. It’a loud enough to disturb the neighborhood at night when trying to sleep and during the day when outdoors.”
