I was originally gonna make this a GDoN but there were no pictures of the inside. It is pretty sweet though. I dig the brick work up top. For the curious it’s going for $699,900 at 939 R Street, NW.

This home is located at 1322 8th Street, NW:

The flier says:

“HOUSE IS OVER 100 YRS, MANY ORIGINAL DETAILS, KITCHEN & BATHS REMODELED, 2BR , 1.5BA , LANDSCAPED, DEEP GARDENS IN FRONT & BACK W/ PATIO AREAS, DECORATIVE FP IN LR RM, KIT/W GREAT UNDER STAIR PANTRY, SOLD AS-IS BUT JUST UPDATED, SET BACK FROM ST, PRIVATE FEELING, ALLEY ACCESS -ONE COULD ADD PARKING, CONVENIENT TO METRO & CITY AMENITIES”

You can find more info and photos here.

I think this is a good looking little house but I am a bit surprised at the asking price. Do you think $548,000 sounds reasonable for this 2 bed/1.5 bath?

At first glance I just thought this was a Christmas Tree with some ornaments on it, which would’ve been cool in and of itself. But then I saw a house had set up an extension cord for lights. I couldn’t stick around till it got dark but I bet it looks amazing all lit up. Props to French Street (between 9th and 10th in Shaw).

From DCFireems on twitter:

“1231 S St NW – 2-story middle of row, rowhouse, fire started on 1st fl and spread to other areas – fire is contained, but not out”

and

“update (5:06pm) – 1231 S st NW – fire under control – appears to be related to fireplace and chimney, etc”

Thanks to a reader for the heads up.

Last we we talked about this spot we heard it may become a deli. The owner emailed me last night night with some updates. The first floor has become an art studio called Cre8 Studio and is run by “young, hip, bright, personable, fun, persuasive folk”. Sadly they don’t seem to have a Web site up and running.

The second floor will become home to the offices of the Wounded Warrior Action Group (WWAG). You can read more about this group here. They will be having an event in the Cre8 space on the first floor open to the public on Dec. 12 (from 10-6 PM) which is “a hands-on type of museum/display on the realities of the life of soldiers on the front lines, and technologies used to protect our forces and civilians.”

Sounds like two great additions to the block!

We looked at this house almost exactly a year ago, it was white then, you can see it here. At the time it was going for $720,000 but Redfin says it sold for $590,000 on 5/8/09. Anyway I thought it was interesting how they removed all the paint and have repointed the brick. It’s starting to look really nice. I wonder if they’ll keep it natural brick or paint it. Do you like the white paint or natural red brick better?

But sadly I can’t recall what this new building is supposed to be. Part of me wants to say a new library but I’m not confident in that. Anyone know what the new building at 7th and Rhode Island is going to be?

Sometimes it feels like the madness never ends. Thanks to a reader for sending (plus the photos):

“Thought you might like to know of yet another shooting that occurred about 20 minutes ago at the housing projects at 8th and S. The police on scene wouldn’t give any info. I wonder how many of these it will take before any serious action is taken.”

Update: I’m now hearing that “MPD told me that they responded to the sound of a gunshot at 4:48 p.m. at 8th and S Streets NW, but that no victim or evidence of a shooting was found.”

This is odd because I’ve never seen a street roped off before without an actual shooting. Will update as more info becomes available.
