car-fire

A reader reports just after midnight:

“Car fire at T & Florida NW. Cause unknown.”

Ed. Note: Obviously someone is distraught over the closing of Zenebech. But in all sincerity props to DCFD for the speedy response!

A reader reports from Shaw:

“This happened last night [Tuesday] on a very well lot corner surrounded by homes. The uptick in crime in Shaw is ridiculous in general, but this is bad movie trope ridiculous.”

Ed. Note: Sadly this is not the first, second, third or fourth time we’ve seen a scene like this over the years.

Well look what’s been happening at the old DC Postal (for a hot second) and Capoeira space in Shaw (across from Right Proper Brewing and the Howard Theatre.)

New restaurant coming:

I’m digging the lights:

From a press release:

“Derek Brown, Angie Fetherston and Drink Company will bring back Miracle on 7th Street this holiday season, returning even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural, viral sensation that turned the James Beard Award-nominated Mockingbird Hill into an over-the-top pop-up Christmas bar.

Miracle on 7th Street, which included whimsical winter wonderland décor touches like a dreidel chandelier and a nativity scene starring gilded dinosaurs, will take over Mockingbird Hill again — in addition to adjoining bars Eat the Rich and Southern Efficiency for triple the holiday fun.

In addition to the outstanding craft cocktail menu Washingtonians love, Stella Artois and Budweiser have partnered with Miracle on 7th Street to create a new beer cocktail for the themed menu, along with beer inspired swag and other boozy treats.

“Last year was so much fun, it’s hard to imagine how we could make it more fun, but guess what: we will,” says Brown.

Miracle on 7th Street will launch the day after Thanksgiving — Friday, November 25 — and will conclude with a New Year’s Eve bash on Saturday, December 31. More information to come!”

“Dear PoPville,

So this monstrosity has been in progress for 2 years in the alley behind my house on Richardson place, NW. Pre-fab hauled in on cranes and plopped down in one day. I’m annoyed because it’s taken two years to get off the ground and all the associated inconveniences of having portions of the alley blocked off but my neighbors are sort of worried what kind of people will come into the neighborhood – possibly young frat bro types who have loud parties or what not. But I just found the concept interesting: Shared housing for those who live life in common

We’re a community of passionate and creative people who live, work, and play together.

Be part of a collaborative and welcoming culture that fosters a strong sense of community.

We’re opening a brand new home in Shaw in December 2016.

Our newest DC residence has 24 bedrooms, each with a private en-suite bath, as well as large shared spaces for cooking, dining and hanging. It’s the perfect place to create community.

12 month pricing starting at $1,700/Month”

608 T Street, NW

We’ve known it was coming for a while now but it doesn’t lessen the sting. This is another one of those spots that was THE (along with Thai Crossing) spot to go in the area before there were so many spots to go…

“Dear PoPville,

Heading to work this morning and it looked as though my neighbors at Zenebech may finally be closing for good (they’ve been talking about their last day for a while). They had a robust dinner service last night, but it didn’t seem out of the ordinary. Can someone confirm if they’ve officially closed their doors?”

Alas, they confirm on their facebook in response to a question:

“Our last day has been postponed to sometime mid-October.”

“Do you have a new closing date yet? You will be dearly missed while you relocate!”

“It’s been pushed to this Sunday” [This Sunday as in yesterday]

Updates when/if a new location is found. Standby for a new 7 story building coming here.
