Holy smokes. I don’t know if it’s because I used to walk by this empty lot for 12+ years but seeing a new building going up here blew my mind. Indulge me. Holy smokes.

Thanks to Matt for passing on from Qualia:
“Just want to update everyone on the status of the arrest warrant that resulted from our staff having water spit on them last month by Jonathan Hedgpeth, who apparently has a history of harassing service workers and women in particular.
As of yesterday, we heard that the arrest warrant has been signed and once the police know his location, they will serve it. If anyone sees him, the absolute best thing you can do is call the police and let them know where you saw him. Please, please do not interact with him yourselves.
Thank again to everyone who sent their support and provided us with the information we requested.”

Fido & kitty’s opened back in 2013.

“Dear PoPville,
All incidents occurred between 3PM and 7PM.
1. One day, when I attempted to disembark the train at Petworth Metro Station, a group of about 30+ loud and super rowdy teenagers rushed the metro car door and would not let anyone get out of the train. I felt that my safety was at stake, so I pushed my way through the crowd in order to get off the train and exit the platform. Someone in the crowd punched me in the arm. When I got to the platform exit gate, I asked the station manager to call the police. While waiting on the police to arrive, five other passengers arrived separately and asked to call the police. It appeared that the entire Petworth metro station was being overrun by a hundred or so out-of-control high school age teenagers. In the 15 minutes that I was at the manager office waiting on the police, at least 30 of the teenagers (without displaying any type of credential) defiantly walked past the station manager and through the emergency exit gate.

“I currently have $500 worth of tickets from dining in at the Petworth Wendy’s and want to make sure it does not happen to anyone else. I was ticketed twice while eating there for $250 each.”
See full post here.
Thanks to all who passed on the report from ABC7 on Monday:
“In 2015, only 79 tickets were written. That number grew to 980 the following year and in 2017, 1,246 tickets were tacked on car’s throughout the lot…
“You know you wrote a $250 ticket to a man who was only eating lunch. Did you know that?”

A reader reported:
“We were walking our dog in Petworth around 6:45 this morning and a fleet of about 10 Park Police cars was rolling East on Emerson, including an armored Humvee. A group in full military armor raided a house on Kansas. They stopped traffic and there is still a helicopter circling as of 7 AM. Any idea what might have been going on and why Park Police?”
MPD reported:
“The United States Park Police executed a search warrant in the 4900 block of Kansas Ave. NW. MPD units assisted with traffic control and air support until the residence was secured by USPP.”
US Park Police reported:
“A USPP Officer has been shot in the lower extremity during a search warrant in Northwest DC. He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. No active threat to the community and the scene is secure. Press release forthcoming.”

A reader reports:
“Around 11:30PM last night, I heard what I thought was probably a couple of gun shots fired on the 800 block of Kennedy Street, NW. Shortly after a cop car came patrolling around, circled the block, and then came back around with its search light on – minutes later, dozens of cop cars joined in with their red and blue lights and I believe they followed a suspect into the back entrance of an apartment complex on Longfellow. I’m most surprised nothing has been reported on this and that there wasn’t an AlertDC notification about this situation.”
Ed. Note: I believe Alert DC notices/MPD reports are not automatically sent for shots fired, they are sent when somebody is hit by gunfire.
