What do you think of the reno? Anyone ever heard of a chamberlain classic before? Does $559,000 sound reasonable for this 3 bed/3.5 bath?

It is my pleasure to share the news and send warmest wishes to my neighbor Ms. Jenkins who turned 100 years old on Friday!

Mad props to the volunteers for braving the weather (rain Sat., heat Sun.) and totally hooking up the median on the 3900 block of NH Ave, NW. When I came home from my walks I had to do a double take. After chatting with some of the volunteers on Sun. I learned that the area will mature and grow over a 3-5 year period. It’s hard to capture how great it already looks in the photos but this’ll give you a little idea.

More photos after the jump (including a before photo). (more…)

From an email:
Today is “the signing and placing of the last piece of steel on our building at 3910 Georgia Avenue, NW. We are one step closer to completing this gold rated LEED for Neighborhood Development project. This innovative development will include a 130 unit mixed income apartment community, and a state-of-the-art neighborhood health center to be owned by Mary’s Center.”
What do you think of the rendering?

Thanks to a reader for sending in word about this development at Bill’s Seafood Kitchen (3601 Georgia Ave. NW near Otis in Park View). The reader notes that the new outdoor seating is a definite improvement over “the sweatshirt stand that usually sits there.”
While we’ve discussed this sign before, I don’t think we’ve ever discussed the food. Any fans?

Thanks to Jeff on 8th for sending in details and images of what’s going on with the New Hampshire Ave, NW medians. He writes:
“In the 3700 block, the median will be tilled and mulched. This is due to the foot traffic caused by people not crossing at the cross walks (aka jaywalking). Which resulted in the sod being killed. Also, DDOT/UFA is looking into options to reduce jaywalking in the 3700 block but as of right now a solution hasn’t be selected.
In the 3800 block, the median will be tilled by DDOT/UFA, and will be mulched on July 10 with mulch donated by Tom Carter from Terra, Inc ( which is based in Petworth). If and when we are able identify additional funding and community support, we will also plant this median and any other median from Georgia Ave to Grant Circle.
In the 3900 block, the median will be mulched (again with mulch donated by Tom Carter from Terra, Inc) and planted with flowers via a grant from ANC 4C on July 10. Volunteers are still needed for the planting.
If anyone wishes to volunteer please email us at [email protected].”

“Space abounds in this 4 level renovated townhome – minor TLC needed to restore this townhome to the Renovated state it enjoyed just a few years ago – 2 decks one on the first level and one off the upstairs bedroom – each bedroom has it’s own bath – open first floor level plus loads of sunlight too! Just a short distance form the Petworth Metro. Take advantage of this great value!”

Is there enough space to warrant the asking price of $549,000?

“Dear PoP,
First, what is the area above Spring, below Upshur between 14th and 13th. Neither Columbia Heights nor 16th Street Heights community associations seems to want it and they are worried if they move there it will always be unloved. I do not mean to start a line war but it seems excluded. Is there a way either association would consider
adding it?
Second, for people that actually live in that area, what do you think about it? Obviously a murder occurred at 14th and Perry recently but was that an oddity or is the place to be avoided?”
That’s Tivoli North of course. I’m just kidding, just kidding. Tivoli North actually is a business association but the idea of calling the neighborhood that is very controversial to say the least. The truth is, it depends who you ask. Among the residents that live in that area I’ve heard people refer to it as Columbia Heights, Petworth, 14th Street Heights, and 16th Street Heights. It is actually Ward 4 (Columbia Heights is Ward 1). I like the idea of 14th St. Heights.
And for #2, I’ll let the folks who live there answer but I travel that area all the time and while you should use street smarts (like most neighborhoods in the city) I only think this area will improve over time. What do you guys think?
