I was finally able to get a look inside the new building, The Griffin, located at the corner of Georgia and Quincy Ave, NW by the Petworth metro. Last we heard the whole building was for sale but it’s looking like it could become rentals sooner rather than later. I’ll update with prices when they become available. Anyway, thought folks would like to see how the units came out:

From an email:

“Last month the Petworth Community Market (PCM) concluded another successful season full of delicious food, great music, and good times with neighbors. In celebration, join PCM and neighbors at the End of Season Celebration and Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 19th from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Island Cafe (829 Upshur Street, NW).

The season has much to celebrate with the introduction of the acceptance of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, a SNAP matching program, an expanded season with new hours, and the offering of several winter CSA programs by participating PCM vendors (details below).

The End of Season Celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the market’s success and to begin seeking support for the funding of our 2012 SNAP matching program. The program currently offers a matching contribution of 50 cents for every dollar of SNAP benefit in an effort to make the offerings of the market more attractive to all families throughout the community. Through the proceeds of the celebration, PCM plans to expand to a full dollar-for-dollar match. The fundraiser will ask for a suggested donation of $10 at the door and Island Cafe will donate 10% of bar proceeds to PCM. Happy Hour drink specials will be in effect and tasty bites courtesy of Island Cafe will be available.

Date: Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Time: 6-8 PM
Location: Island Cafe, 829 Upshur Street, NW

Thanks to Michael for the heads up and the photos. This is one of my favorite blocks in the city. While I wish it was a bit closer walking distance to restaurants, I’ll just say it – if I were looking I’d buy this one in a heartbeat. What do you think – $439,000 sound right for this 3 bed/3 bath?

Holy lord – this could be very very awesome. Their Web site simply says:

“Future home of something quite cool”

But a little digging around reveals some seriously sweet info:

“The Charcuterie industry is one that is highly underrepresented. Even the term “charcuterie” is a name foreign to most people in this country. However, there are many familiar foods that fall into the category of charcuterie that many people crave, love, and have grown up with. If you like bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, or even holiday ham, you are a fan of charcuterie.

The term Salumi is a bit more familiar. Even if you haven’t heard the word until now, you have probably already realized that it sounds a lot like ‘salami’. Made famous by the Italians, the art of Salumi represents years of tradition and recipes passed down from generation to generation among family members. What makes salumi unique, is the curing process followed by months, and in some cases, even years of dry aging. It is this lengthy process that gives products like prosciutto, salami, and Spanish chorizo their incredibly complex flavor and aroma.

People are looking for bacon that exceeds the standards set by commercial producers, hotdogs that do not contain cow lips and pig snouts, or BBQ ribs that are not made from diseased pigs raised in inhumane conditions.

The people of Washington D.C. deserve high quality at a fair price, and we are going to give it to them. Everything comes from local farms and is made in house.”

Holy freaking awesome!!!

Three Little Pigs will be located at 5111 Georgia Ave, NW (next to the Petworth Fire Station.)

They hope to be “up and running by November.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am working on a combination Carry Out / Communal Kitchen on Georgia Avenue a few blocks north of the Petworth Metro station and I would be curious to hear what your readers think would be a good cuisine for that area. (Also would be happy to hear from folks who are looking to rent commercial kitchen space for their food trucks, catering company, etc.)

Sincerely,

Future Petworth Carry Out”

I’m gonna take first crack here. And I think I’ll at least echo a few other voices because it seems to come up at least once a week – a good Jewish Deli carryout. Pastrami, corned beef etc.

What would you guys like to see?

Ed. Note: The writer of this note is the real deal. Whichever cuisine is selected I guarantee we will be doing back flips and shedding more tears of joy.
