Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up. It’s not clear to me if the Shell Station is completely closing or if the 7-11 will have gas pumps but I’ve always wondered why there were two Shell stations so close together (the other is two blocks north at Upshur and Georgia.)

Anyone happy to see a 7-11 coming to this space?

I know they opened up last week but I wanted to wait a bit so I could share the menu as well (see PDF below). Sadly, I haven’t had a chance to try them out yet at the old Seafood & Things space at 847 Upshur St, NW but I did chat briefly with the owner (pictured below) who was super nice. In addition to trying the pizza, I’m also eager to see how the Gyro tastes.

Anyone check them out yet?

“Dear PoP,

Do you know anything about the arts and strawberry festival at St. Paul’s on Saturday? Saw the banner the other day, but wasn’t sure what it was all about. Their website doesn’t have any info besides the day and time.”

From St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish:

Saturday, June 25 from 4pm to 7pm St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish will be hosting
our annual Strawberry Festival. For years, we have hosted this event in hopes
of bringing together the community around our wonderful historic eighty-acre
campus. We will have strawberries for sale, games for children and adults, ice
cream, hayrides, a cemetery scavenger hunt, and much much more.

Join us as we celebrate a beautiful spring day with our wonderful community!

St. Paul’s is located off of Rock Creek Church Road, NW and Allison Street, directly across
from the Soldiers Home.

“Dear PoP,

I was wondering if you had any information on the shooting near Delafield Ok last night around 1am? I heard the shots from my apartment on Decatur St NW. My window was open and faces the alley toward Delafield and I heard 7 shots fired around 1am. The police were on scene in less than 2 min and burning rubber trying to find the guy. Then my roommate and I hit the floor when we heard something that sounded like tank artillery. The majority of the cops left by 1:40 but they are still patrolling.”

From MPD:

Around 1:30am, units received a call for a shooting in the 300 blk of Delafield Pl. NW. Upon arrival, an adult male was located suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. This case is being investigated by members of the Homicide Branch. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-919-CRIM(E).

Back in March ’11 I flippantly said that Seafood & Things located at 847 Upshur St, NW would become the Kind N I serving seafood and things. However, I think we may have the makings of a proper take out pizza place. I peeked my head in and they are doing some major construction. It looks like they have elongated the bar and are completely removing the previous front counter area layout. Obviously we’ll have to taste the pizza but based on the extensiveness of the renovation I’m gonna hold out hope that this may actually be a huge development.

Knock wood, knock wood. Now we just have to see if the get a new awning… More when they open soon.
