2 Men Shot 1 Killed in the 4800 block of Kansas Ave, NW; Shooting at 15th and Euclid

“On Sunday around 2:00 am, MPD responded to the sounds of gunshots in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue NW and found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them was taken to local hospital and is in very critical condition. The second male was pronounced dead. Currently the only description for a suspect is a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt who was last seen running south on Kansas Avenue NW.

Anyone with information is asked to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text at 50411.”

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 2600 block of 15th Street, NW. An adult male victim has been taken to an area hospital for treatment. Motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area due to road closures.

“Shortly after 12:30 AM on July 30, 2017, MPD units received a 911 call for a man with a gun in the 900 block of Longfellow Street, NW. The complainant reported that he was doing his laundry in his building’s laundry room when the suspect threatened him with a gun. The suspect was located and was positively identified by the complainant as the one who threatened him with a gun. The suspect was placed under arrest for ADW Gun. A revolver, which turned out to be an imitation starter pistol, was also found in the suspect’s proximity.”

“Burglary/First Degree-4500 block 5th ST NW

​At 11:45 PM, two suspects knocked on the door of a residence. When the occupant opened the door, the suspects forced their way inside and assaulted 3 of the residents. The victims sustained minor injuries and refused medical assistance. The suspects are described as Black males last seen driving away in a dark colored “police style” vehicle. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

The building owner where we do business has decided to sell. After several months of thoughtful conversations Jason and I have decided to sell the business to pursue new opportunities that have presented themselves. SSB Deli will be closing on July 31st 2017 until the new owner is ready to re-open [as a restaurant] at a date that is to be determined.

We would like to thank everyone for the wonderful years that we have shared. Many of you are weekly regulars that have been frequenting the shop for over 5 years. I’ve been able to have the pleasure to meet most of you in person and we’ve gotten to know each other very well. You’ve become my friends and it has been fulfilling to serve the community. It’s been an honor to have built a place that you could come to get a bit of comfort food and see a familiar face. The shop originated as a small idea while we were in college. Pop Up Benches Becoming Permanent in at Sherman Circle!

ANC Commissioner Amy Hemingway reports:

“I am thrilled to report NPS is in the process of installing four benches in Sherman Circle. This is the result of residents’ requests and passion, and support from ANC 4D, Mayor Bowser, Councilmember Todd, and 4C Commissioner Joe Martin.

The benches arrived at 6:56am this morning. And by 7am Ms. Lydia Barclay, from 8th and Hamilton, was the first person to sit on them. She couldn’t contain her excitement, having spent nearly 40 years walking this circle. While Ms. Barclay sat for a times seven minutes, she named countless benefits of the benches, from “welcoming residents to rest after exercise to reading a book.” She named a number of her friends she was starting to tell so they could come down soon. “I’m absolutely baffled as to how the car made it this far”

A reader reports:

“So this happened late afternoon Friday, July 14 in Petworth, in the 900 block of Randolph Street, NW. I live a couple doors down. Our management company is trying to obtain the police report but it doesn’t appear anyone in our condo association witnessed the accident. I’m absolutely baffled as to how the car made it this far (you can’t tell from the pic but it took out a metal railing by the stairs along with a good chunk of the brick). It’s very lucky it was raining Friday, as there are often kids or dog walkers along that sidewalk.”
