From WMATA:

“Metro is reminding Red Line customers of a major capital improvement project starting Saturday, November 25, and continuing through Sunday, December 10. There will be no Red Line train service between Silver Spring and Fort Totten and the Takoma Station will be closed to replace a mainline interlocking, a location where trains cross from one track to the other.

The project, announced last spring, will impact 10 commuting days and was scheduled between Thanksgiving and the winter holidays when ridership is lighter.

During this time, limited free shuttle buses will replace trains between Silver Spring and Fort Totten for customers with no other travel alternatives. Customers should allow additional travel time and expect some crowding as trains will arrive less frequently than normal. (more…)

From WMATA:

“Beginning Saturday, November 25, and continuing through Sunday, December 10, 2017, Metro will undertake a major capital improvement project on the Red Line involving the complete replacement of a mainline interlocking, a location where trains cross from one track to the other. During this time, there will be no Red Line trains operating between Silver Spring and Fort Totten, and Takoma Station will be closed.

During the project, Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and Fort Totten, and between Glenmont and Silver Spring. Customers should allow additional travel time and expect some crowding, as trains will arrive less frequently than normal. Free shuttle buses will provide limited service between Silver Spring, Takoma and Fort Totten stations. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I saw an update on one of your GDoN posts in my neighborhood list serve. The dumpy Takoma house that went for $55K over asking is on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4B’s CommunityDesign Review Committee agenda to become an apartment building.

It also looks like some of the space in the Takoma Theatre is leased to Children’s Hospital Outpatient offices, and the developer is trying to reduce the amount of required retail space on the ground floor.”

Thanks to all who sent the ANC Agenda: (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“There’s movement at the Yoga Heights under Takoma Central in Takoma DC! (Same building where Bus Boys is located.) This sign is now posted on the door but major construction still being done inside.”

A reader reports:

“This morning I woke up to find that someone had posted flyers on cars in Takoma DC to warn us of illegal aliens who commit crimes and ponder where we can find sanctuary. Hate has no home here.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“On behalf of Mayor Bowser, I wanted to share that we are aware of the recent hate/bias flyers that have been distributed and seen through out Ward 4. We want all residents to know this will not be tolerated. We are working and will continue to work with MPD and relevant agencies to address this issue and ensure residents feel safe.

If you see any hateful flyers please do not hesitate to call 911.

From WMATA:

“Overnight, Metro Transit Police arrested the individual wanted in connection with yesterday’s shooting aboard a Red Line train near Takoma. Jermaine Brown, 18, of Seat Pleasant, MD, was taken into custody by MTPD officers at a motel in Capitol Heights shortly before midnight. The suspect is currently charged with a single count of first-degree assault in Montgomery County.

The investigation has revealed that the shooting victim, age 14, is the half-brother of the suspect, and detectives now believe that he was not the intended target. Rather, investigators believe that the suspected shooter (Brown) was traveling with his half-brother when there was an altercation aboard the train involving Brown and three other individuals. During the affray, which was captured by digital video cameras aboard the railcar, Brown pulled a gun and fired multiple times. One round struck the victim (Brown’s half-brother); two other bullets struck the railcar.

The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, aboard an inbound Red Line train approaching Takoma Station. (more…)

From Metro Transit police at 3:42pm Sunday:
