“The dumpy Takoma house that went for $55K over asking is to become an apartment building.”

“Dear PoPville,

I saw an update on one of your GDoN posts in my neighborhood list serve. The dumpy Takoma house that went for $55K over asking is on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4B’s CommunityDesign Review Committee agenda to become an apartment building.

It also looks like some of the space in the Takoma Theatre is leased to Children’s Hospital Outpatient offices, and the developer is trying to reduce the amount of required retail space on the ground floor.”

Thanks to all who sent the ANC Agenda:

“Neighbors:

What kind retail, and how much, do you want on the first floor of Takoma Theatre? Also, what do you think about putting an apartment building on the site of an existing single-family home at 6914 Willow Street, NW?

Come see Takoma Theatre’s first floor and share your views at a community meeting on November 1, to be held by Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4B’s Community Design Review Committee.

The Theatre (6833 4th St., NW, corner of 4th & Butternut) will be open from 5:30 to 6:15 pm. The discussion about how to use the building’s first-floor retail is from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Takoma Village Cohousing Community Room next door (6827 4th St, NW). The second item on the Committee’s agenda is a presentation and discussion about a proposal to build an apartment building on the current site of a single family home at 6914 Willow St., NW.

The Theatre’s owner, the Rock Creek Property Group, is asking the DC government for permission to reduce the required amount of retail space on the first floor. They are renting the rest of the building to Children’s Hospital for use as outpatient doctors’ offices. The owner of 6914 Willow needs approval from the DC Historic Preservation Review Board to replace the home with apartments.
