Been getting tons of queries about that super low helicopter spotted all over Takoma, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase and elsewhere today. From the NNSA:

“The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) will conduct low-altitude helicopter flights over downtown Washington, D.C. and areas in and around the Nation’s capital beginning on October 19 in preparation for the Presidential Inauguration. DC Fire and EMS reported: “Update vehicle into structure 6th & H St NE. Vehicle penetrated vacant retail space. Driver left scene. No injuries or evacuation. #DCsBravest requesting collapse unit to scene for structural damage assessment. @dcra building inspector requested.”

Keith reported at 8:48am “Happy Monday! not sure what happened but driver plowed into building, climbed out the sunroof and rolled out. police in foot pursuit. all the fire units here to secure the building

the driver appeared to be “out of sorts” slash inconsolable and just left the scene despite the pleas of bystanders.” (more…)

“On Thursday July 23, 2020, at approximately 2100 hours, Fourth District Officers responded to the 6400 block of 5th ST NW for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located two juvenile males, each suffering from a single gunshot wound. Both victims had non-life threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. There is no usable lookout at this time.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to call MPD on 202-727-9099.”


From MPD:

“On Wednesday July 22, 2020, at approximately 1:45 am, Fourth District Unit were canvassing the 6600 block of 13th ST NW, in reference to a suspect that had fled on foot. The suspect was wanted for Simple Assault and was believed to be hiding in the alley. Our MPD Helicopter was utilized to put some extra light on the alley and was flying over the area for approximately 20 minutes. Unfortunately the suspect escaped, but his identity is known.

I just want to keep the community informed about what the police activity was in reference to.

“The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Walnut Street, NW.

At approximate 10:45 pm, the Tacoma Park Police were called to the 100 block of Walnut Avenue, in Takoma Park, Maryland, for a serious vehicle collision, involving a single vehicle and a tree. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital. The passenger of the vehicle remains in critical condition due to a gunshot wound and injuries sustained in the vehicle collision. The driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation revealed that prior to the vehicle collision, the vehicle and occupants were involved in a shooting located in District of Columbia, in the 100 block of Walnut St, NW, a short distance away.

and

“At approximately 10:30 pm last night, the Metropolitan Police responded to the 4400 block of 13th St, NE for a shooting. After canvassing the area, members of the department located an adult male with a non life threatening gunshot wound.”
