“Dear PoPville,

Stopped by Donut Run this morning and saw that someone broke their window. Their Instagram says that someone also stole their BLM flag which was prominently displayed, which they are asking to be returned to them.

Not sure who would do something so horrible to a really well-loved local business in the community. Wishing them well as they clean up and recover and also will definitely stop by for donuts first thing when they reopen!”

“At approximately 2353 hours last night, a complainant reported to MPD units that the driver of an unknown black sedan fired a gunshot at their vehicle while they were traveling south in the 3rd Street Tunnel at Massachusetts Ave NW. The complainant was not injured, but their vehicle was stuck by a single bullet. The complainant believes this may be related to the other vehicle being offended by their driving.

If anyone was in the area or has any information about this event, please contact the First District Detective’s Office at 202-299-2025.”

“Lost Sock Roasters, a small-batch specialty coffee roaster, is opening its first cafe at 6833 4th St NW, in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, DC. The business is located in the recently renovated, historic Takoma Theater and shares the building with Children’s Hospital and soon, Turning Natural.

The Lost Sock Roasters team, headed by Nico Cabrera and Jeff Yerxa, have been roasting specialty coffee in Brightwood Park for the last 5 years with a focus on light to medium roasts and have been recognized nationally by Food and Wine as the Best Local Roaster and Best Drip Coffee in Washington, DC. The cafe will have a coffee for everyone – from those looking for an everyday cup to the aficionado looking to explore more exotic flavor profiles. The coffee program will include drip coffee, espresso drinks, an extensive pour over menu, cold brew, a rotating lineup of seasonal drinks, and retail bags to take home.

Lost Sock is also partnering with local bakeries to supply a mix of DC’s best pastries. Argentine-style fresh baked empanadas filled with chicken, beef, pulled pork, bec (bacon, egg and cheese) and pan de yuca (cheese bread made with yuca flour and gluten-free) will also be on the menu. Reaching out for some assistance from the wider community in helping a family in my neighborhood who lost their home recently due to a house fire.

“On Monday night, January 4, a longtime Takoma DC family’s home was destroyed by fire. The house was home to three generations, with kids in the local DC Public Schools, and loving care provided by their grandmother. It was lost somewhere on 1st street NW between big bear cafe and children’s National hospital when I was walking my dog. Would love to get it back! It was a gift when I was born from my grandpa.”

Last night someone ditched a large box of tools, small blue cooler, and a hand vacuum on the sidewalk in front of my house in Lamond-Riggs/Takoma. The tools look like they may belong to an electrician or a contractor that does something similar, and judging from the amount of things in there, I have a feeling they are very missed right now.

If anyone is able to help identify who might be missing these tools, I would love for them to be reunited!”

“Earlier this morning, the Metropolitan Police Department was called to the 5th and Aspen St., NW, for the report of gunfire. During a canvass, members discovered several cartridge casings in the intersection of 5th and Aspen St., NW. No injuries have been reported at this time.
