And this is not a bad thing! Shake Shack Logan Circle and Navy Yard opened last month and also has locations in Dupont, Union Station and outside the Spy Museum. Next up from a press release:

“Yellow Jacket Deterrents?”

“Dear PoPville,

The last few years we have seen quite a few large yellow jacket like wasps (do we get those here?) flying around our backyard. Not enough to be a nest in our yard, but I suspect one is nearby. They used to linger along our shared fence away from our deck.

But, this afternoon while our dog was enjoying some sun on the deck, I noticed they were trying to get through the screen door. At one point there were 2 of them on the door at once, they kept flying into it to try and get through and there were a few more flying around the deck.

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for deterring them? Plants, herbs, traps, etc?”

“an American administrator and educator, was a civil rights and women’s rights activist specifically focused on the issues of African-American women, including unemployment, illiteracy, and voter awareness. She was the president of the National Council of Negro Women for forty years and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.”

“Everyday DC,” a photography exhibition on view at the Southwest Arts Club in Washington D.C., from March 1, 2017 through March 31, 2017, explores these questions by visualizing daily life in Washington, D.C., through the eyes of over 100 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from eight DC public middle schools that represent all four quadrants of the city. KNEAD Hospitality + Design is creating this new restaurant concept for The Wharf in partnership with Chef Roberto Santibañez, owner of the acclaimed Fonda restaurants in New York City. “Mi Vida,” which translates to “my life,” is also a term of endearment used to refer to a loved one. The 9,500-square-foot restaurant will be located at the water’s edge directly on Wharf Street adjacent to The Anthem, The Wharf’s new 6,000-person capacity music venue. (more…)
