“Mayor Bowser’s Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced five new pick-up/drop-off pilot locations following the successful Connecticut Avenue Pick-up/Drop-off Zone Night Life Pilot. Following a 30-day notice and comment period, the Administration will launch the new 24-hour passenger and commercial loading zones in high-demand areas.

“Our goal with the expansion of this pilot is to reduce conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists,” said Mayor Bowser. “By rethinking how we move people and goods between the street and the sidewalk, we can better adapt to a changing transportation landscape and find new ways to work together to meet our Vision Zero goals.”

The World’s Largest Viking Ship is coming to the Wharf Next Friday “with a display of Viking valor and excitement”

“The Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the Royal Norwegian Embassy, and the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce Mid-Atlantic Chapter will host Norwegian Viking ship, Draken Harald Harfagre (Draken) at The Wharf’s Transit Pier from Friday, October 5 to Monday, October 15.

As part of the festivities, the Royal Norwegian Embassy will host a ceremony to welcome the arrival of the Norwegian Viking ship, Draken Harald Harfagre (Draken). In partnership with Norway’s Embassy Adoption Program, students from MacFarland Middle School and Roosevelt High School, guests and speakers will gather on Transit Pier to greet the Draken as it sails into port with a display of Viking valor and excitement. Does DC have any plans for a bike path connecting the Wharf to Buzzard Point and the Yards Park via Fort Lesley McNair? I know that the NPS plan for Buzzard Point includes a bike path that extends to where the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail currently ends, but how about all the way around that point? (more…)

Shooting Near Nats Park; Shots Fired in Park View

“On 9/11/18 at approximately 9:20 hours, officers from the First District responded to the 1500 block of 1st St SW for a report of a shooting. On the scene, the officers found an adult male victim suffering from several gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

The case is currently being investigate by members of the First District Detectives Office. If you any information regarding the incident, please contact the First District Detectives Office at (202)299-2025, or the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at (202)727-9099.”

And around 7:15pm last night a reader reported shots fired on Georgia Ave and Park Road, NW. It does not appear anyone was hit as no police reports were issued.
