From MPD:

“I just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that last night First District Units assisted the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division, Sixth District, and Helicopter Branch with the pursuit a vehicle wanted in multiple robberies. At approximately 2229 hours, the vehicle came into the First District from the East Capitol Street Bridge before ending up in the 1600 block of Massachusetts Ave SE. All four juvenile suspects fled from the vehicle, but were quickly apprehended. The suspects were arrested for at least six (6) robberies, carjackings, and attempt robberies all of which occurred yesterday in the 4th, 5th, and 6th Districts as well as Prince George’s County. Fortunately, no one was injured and no property was damaged during this pursuit and apprehension. Have a great day.”

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed that you distinguish between Capitol Hill, Hill East, H St NE, and Navy Yard. I was wondering, do you have a precise set of boundaries to divide these places from each other? For example, where exactly does Capitol Hill become Hill East? And where the dividing line between Capitol Hill and H St NE?”

I shall defer to the experts who live there!!

And free PoPville swag to anyone who draws up a map (or maps) after we get some sorta consensus. hahaha I know there will be no consensus but we’ll do the best we can. please email them to me at [email protected]

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Bowser today was joined by Events DC, the District’s convention and sports authority, to break ground on the multi-purpose recreational fields that begin the RFK Campus redevelopment plan. Construction will begin in September 2018 and the fields are expected to open for play in March 2019.

“The community has waited a long time to see this land put to good use, and today, we are all proud to get this project started,” said Mayor Bowser. “When these fields are complete, this will be the community space our residents deserve. Here at RFK, Washingtonians will have it all – the amenities of a big city, access to a thriving waterfront, and fantastic outdoor fields and play space.”

The groundbreaking will transform nearly 27 acres of asphalt into three new state-of-the-art artificial turf fields with community amenities. (more…)

Around 11:30pm Jill asked:

“what’s up with the circling helicopter near Potomac Ave Metro?”

From MPD:

“Illegal Firearm Recovered and Arrest Made in Potomac Gardens

Just wanted to take a minute to make everyone aware that last night Officers Branson and Tyson were working as part of our enhanced deployment in the PSA 106 and the Potomac Gardens area. While responding to backup a DC Housing Police Officer looking for a wanted subject, they observed an individual inside Potomac Gardens attempting to stash a handgun. After a brief foot chase, Officers Branson and Tyson stopped the individual without incident and recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun from their person. Our officers are working hard to take illegal firearms off your neighborhood streets, so I wanted to take a moment to share this success with everyone. Have a great day!”
