From the Commanders:

“Today, the Washington Commanders and HKS unveiled the first conceptual renderings of the team’s new, world-class stadium. The roofed stadium will be a dynamic, year-round destination for sports, entertainment and community engagement, integrating sustainable design practices and reimagining the fan experience through immersive spaces.

HKS, a global design firm recognized for shaping some of the world’s most iconic sports and entertainment venues, was selected as the lead architect for the stadium in November and has developed this first round of visuals in partnership with the Commanders team. HKS’ portfolio includes SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. As illustrated in the renderings, the proposed stadium, which will be able to accommodate up to 70,000 plus people, is envisioned as a catalyst for surrounding mixed-use development, delivering lasting value for District residents while serving as both a neighborhood gathering place and a national stage. From an email:

“During the federal government shutdown, many museums and National Park Service sites are closed to visitors. Historic Congressional Cemetery, however, remains open.

As an independent nonprofit organization, we are not part of the federal government, and we continue to welcome visitors, volunteers, and community members every day.

We understand this is a challenging and uncertain time for many, especially for furloughed federal employees and their families.

Our historic grounds offer a place of peace, reflection, and connection. A reminder that even in difficult moments, community endures.

Here are a few ways to spend time with us: (more…)

“ANYTIME” doing some serious gymnastics here…

Thanks to G. for sending from near the entrance to Congressional Cemetery:

“Also, where Mrs. Landingham was killed in a traffic crash on The West Wing.”

Thanks to Gordon Chaffin for sharing:

“I work outside around the city, and it’s been inspiring to see more and more homes fly the D.C. flag, and/or yard signs for Statehood, Free D.C., or the anti-tyranny stuff that Flags for Good makes.

I was stopped in my tracks by the 1700 block of Bay St SE. Nearly every house was flying the D.C. flag. The weather last night was great, the sunset was gorgeous on Hill East, and the show of defiant pride was moving.
