Washington Post reports the incredible details:
It [the bullet] pierced the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and bored into his wallet, going through his diver’s license, a bank card and a folded $10 bill. It struck five more cards and broke partway through the wallet’s cover, shattering the glass front of his smartphone.
“I am generally not a religious man, but this guy is blessed,” said D.C. Police Cmdr. Andrew Solberg, a 26-year veteran who heads the 5th District station, covering the area where Harris lives. “I want to go over and touch this man’s hand or clip off a lock of his hair. I want to rub him and feel some magic.”

“A charter school teacher walking on the Metropolitan Branch Trail in Northeast Washington was beaten and robbed Thursday night by a large group of assailants, according to D.C. police.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating multiple persons of interest in connection with a robbery force and violence which occurred in the 600 Block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE.
On Thursday, October 31, 2013, at approximately 9:15 pm, an adult male victim was walking in the area of the 600 Block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE when one of 10 persons gathered announced a robbery and the entire group assaulted him, took his property, and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The persons of interest are described as black males between 18 to 22 years of age.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099.”

Earlier in the week MPD posted “Weapon Recovery in the 600 Block of Girard Street, NE” to the MPD-5D listserv:
“Day Watch Patrol Service Area (PSA)502 Units led by Sergeant Steinhilber responded back to this area for a complete canvass once day light broke and recovered a black 9MM HELWAN semi automatic handgun, from the front of an address in the 600 Block of Girard Street, NE, behind a cable box. The weapon was loaded with one round in the chamber and one round in the magazine. The hammer on the weapon was cocked!”
A member responded:
“Were any prints able to be lifted from the handgun? Did the fact that you are not equipped with enough manpower to police all 911 calls, prevent you from sitting on this firearm for a period of time to see if someone might come to get it?”
MPD responded this morning:
“The weapon is being processed at our state of the art Forensics Lab that performs a number of tests on firearms, magazines and ammo. We are staffed to manage calls for service and other self initiated assignments that come forth each tour and most importantly we are in the risk management business. That risk involves decision making concerning weapons. I would rather work the recovery with forensic analysis and good old fashion police work than risk the loss of a crime gun back into our community. I have made more death notifications to loved ones in 31 years than I care to think about. I cannot imagine the anguish a parent, wife/husband, brother/sister, extended family, friends, relatives and associates would feel hearing a family member was killed with a gun we were capable and able to recover immediately but chose to sit on in an attempt to make an arrest that may or may not be prosecuted. I will gladly leave those cases to TV and Hollywood.”

The Fifth Police District has made a significant arrest of an individual involved in a series of Home Break ins that occurred in and around our Bloomingdale/Edgewood Communities.
This suspect was arrested yesterday evening by members of the Fifth District Detectives Unit acting upon information provided by a victim. Armed with this information, 5D Detectives were relentless in following up on that information which led to this arrest.
This arrest led to a search warrant that yielded a number of personal items that had been taken from homes listed below (more…)

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have announced an arrest has been made in connection with the Assault with Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed and Burglary that occurred in the 2400 block of 2nd Street, NE.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at approximately 4:00 am, two suspects entered a residence and produced a handgun and a knife. One of the suspects sexually assaulted an adult female before taking property and fleeing.
On Saturday, June 29, 2013, 18-year-old Tayvon Barber of Northeast DC, was arrested and charged with Burglary One while Armed and Assault with the Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed, following an investigation by the detectives of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast.
On Saturday, March 30, 2013, at approximately 2:09 am, patrol units from the Fifth District responded to the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent is identified as 33-year-old Irving Jones, Jr. of Northeast, Washington, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.

This morning, [March 30th] at approximately 3:35 AM, members of the First District were flagged down in reference to a shooting. Members responded to a residence in the 900 block of Delaware Avenue, SW, where they discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, who was conscious and breathing, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment after sustaining non-life threatening injuries while fleeing the scene. Lookout for (2) black males, slim builds. No further description at this time.
