As America’s next president is inaugurated, all eyes will be on DC. Many artists will be asking themselves what America means to them. For this one-night-only event, DC’s creative community won’t hold back.

A unique DC arts festival will take place on inauguration weekend at the new Edgewood Arts Center at 3415 8th St NE. MY AMERICA: DC Creates – Innovates – Unites will feature musical performances and visual art from artists based in the DC metro area. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is Finally Coming to DC!!

Epic news for Edgewood (Eckington, Brookland, and Brentwood) from a press release:

“Alamo Drafthouse Cinema today announced its first Washington, D.C. location at MRP Realty’s Bryant Street development along the Rhode Island Avenue corridor. The 44,000 square-foot theater is set to open in 2019 and is the fourth theater for franchisee Cojeaux Cinemas.

“We are extremely pleased to have found a great Alamo Drafthouse Cinema location along the dynamic Rhode Island Avenue corridor of Northeast D.C. MRP Realty had the vision to re-integrate this property into the community in a way that helps its citizens reap the benefits of D.C. revitalization,” said Anthony Coco and Joseph Edwards, co-owners of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Washington D.C. “Every seat will be a luxury recliner and each auditorium will include Sony 4K Digital Cinema projection and top-of-the-line sound. “The Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division Sexual Assault Unit announced an arrest in the First Degree Burglary, First Degree Sexual Abuse, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping offenses that occurred in the 300 block of Channing Street, Northeast, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

At approximately 1:30 am, an unknown suspect entered a residence, and then physically and sexually assaulted a resident. Neighbors heard the resident in distress and called 911. Members of MPD arrived on the scene and the suspect refused to let the resident leave and held her against her will. Responding officers were able to gain entry and rescue the resident and place the suspect under arrest.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2016, 29-year-old Iray Dejaun Turner, of Washington, DC was arrested for First Degree Burglary, First Degree Sexual Abuse, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping charges.”
