“Friends, it is with mixed emotion that we share this with you! Like millions, we have been struggling for over a year now to keep our DOORS OPEN, while operating 20/30% of our normal capacity and Income. We have done a good job following all the COVID rules to the “T.” AFTER ALL THAT, we were not successful in negotiating a new LEASE. So, like many long-time businesses in Woodley Park, we are forced to close the doors of Salon Roi after 52 years in the same Building.

So, June 30th, we will be leaving Our MARILYN MURAL behind, as we all pack our styling carts and head to SALON ROI (#2) (more…)

8pm Carjacking in Chevy Chase near Rock Creek Park Last Night

“Carjacking– On 12/14/20, at approximately 8 PM, the victim was parked in the 5400 Block of 27th Street NW. A vehicle then executed a U-turn and parked along side of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect displayed a handgun and ordered the victim to get back. The victim stepped away from the vehicle and the suspect then entered the victim’s car and fled the scene. The vehicle has since been recovered in the 6th District.“

Been getting tons of queries about that super low helicopter spotted all over Takoma, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase and elsewhere today. From the NNSA:

“The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) will conduct low-altitude helicopter flights over downtown Washington, D.C. and areas in and around the Nation’s capital beginning on October 19 in preparation for the Presidential Inauguration. Shooting Homicide at gas station near Politics and Prose on Connecticut Ave, NW. Unrelated but also: 75 Year Old Man Reportedly Shot while in his car in Tenleytown around 11:40pm.

Alan Henney first about the incident above around 11:40pmreported:

“SHOOTING, UPPER NW DC— Male walked into McDonalds at Wisconsin Ave and Van Ness St NW-DC. He may have been shot near 40th St and Wisconsin Ave in North Cleveland Park/Tenleytown area. He has been struck in the arm. Police searching for a crime scene.

update on Tenleytown shooting: Approx. 75yr-old man was in his car near the firehouse when a pedestrian fired shot(s) into the auto injuring his arm. He then drove to McDonalds for help.”

MPD later reported what would be a shooting homicide at the gas station on Connecticut Ave across the street from Politics and Prose: “Confirmed Shooting in the 4900 block of Connecticut Ave NW. Lookout for: 2 B/M’s DARK COMPLXN, TALLER POSSIBLY WEARING NEW BALANCE TENNIS SHOES.”

On that The Washington Post reported:

“The shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. near Connecticut and Nebraska avenues NW, according to a police official.

The victim was not identified immediately but appeared to be a teenager or young man, police said. It appeared that he was shot twice, the official said.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2020, in 4900 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest. (more…)
