OK then, looks like we got another neighborhood name battle on our hands. I LIVE FOR THIS. Thanks to Amy for getting the ball rolling by objecting to Chevy Chase (D.C.) as the neighborhood for that new Italian restaurant coming across the street from the original Politics and Prose. So let’s settle this once and for all. hahaha just kidding, but let’s do our best to get a consensus. Now I don’t consider google the arbiter of neighborhood boundaries but I will note that they consider this Chevy Chase. I asked earlier today on twitter and folks seem pretty split between Van Ness and Forest Hills. Originally I was firmly in the Chevy Chase camp but now I’m honestly undecided. What say you?

Thanks to Stacey for sending this update on the American City Diner space from Washingtonian Magazine:

“Local entrepreneur and restaurateur Steve Salis is taking over the space.”

Co-founder of &pizza, Salis is an owner/partner in Federalist Pig, Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe and recently acquired Ted’s Bulletin. Personally I think a Ted’s Bulletin would do very well in this space. Stay tuned to see what’s coming.

From American City Diner:

“Thank you so much to all of our longtime customers and the amazing community of Chevy Chase, DC for your support over the past 30+ years. It’s been a privilege serving you but the time has come for the American City Diner to close its doors. We will forever be grateful to Jeffrey Gildenhorn for bringing this beloved institution to Connecticut Ave.”

In September 2017 a fundraiser was launched after the sudden passing of owner Jeffrey Gildenhorn in June 2017.

Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

The liquor license placard for Little Beast says:

“A new Restaurant serving Italian cuisine. Seating Capacity of 74 and Total Occupancy Load of 99 inside premises. Seating Capacity of 89 and Total Occupancy Load of 97 for the Outdoor Sidewalk Café.”

Washington CityPaper reports it’s from the man behind Red Light and Drafting Table in Logan Circle as well as Bakers & Baristas in Penn Quarter. The plans for the restaurant include:

“Little Beast plans to operate from 7 a.m. to midnight every night of the week. During the day, they’ll serve house-baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and Red Velvet Cupcakes alongside Vigilante Coffee. Come evening, the restaurant will switch over to a wood-fired food menu complete with creative pizzas, 10 to 12 sharable dishes, and larger plates like pastas, roasted chicken, and rockfish.”

Updates as they get closer to opening.
