9th and N St, NW
This morning I posted a mural from 9th and N St, NW and some commenters mentioned the development from CAS Riegler coming to 1250 9th St, NW. CAS Riegler’s website says:
1250 9th Street is a 64,500 square foot, urban in-fill, mixed-use development project located in the heart of Washington, DC’s rapidly expanding 9th Street Corridor surrounded by three of the city’s largest developments. At completion, the project will contain a total of 70 residential units and approximately 8,200 square feet of ground floor retail one block away from the Mount Vernon/ 7th Street Convention Center Metro station. The development will be four levels of residential plus a penthouse level with separate townhomes and the ground level retail can accommodate two full- service restaurants. 1250 9th Street lies at the Southwest corner of 9th and N Streets, NW in the Shaw neighborhood at the convergence of Mount Vernon and Gallery Place. The site is partially occupied by a three story building constructed in the 1920’s. It is considered to be a contributing historic structure and will therefore be incorporated into the design of the new development.
1250 9th Street offers direct access and convenience to several popular amenities in the DC metro area along with easy access to major employment centers downtown DC and the rest of the metro area. Construction is scheduled to commence 1Q 2013 with a projected delivery in 2Q 2014.
You can see all the renderings here.

About a year ago we heard the Carving Room would be bringing “House cured and hand carved sandwiches” to 4th and H St, NW (next to Wiseguy Pizza.) Their website says:
“A neighborhood kitchen specializing in house cured and hand carved meats, homemade sides and pickled vegetables. Full bar features 10 draft beers and signature libations.”
I stopped in yesterday and the space has a great big bar and plenty of seating. I asked when in Feb. they’d be opening and they were confident it would be early Feb. Stay tuned for an exact date.

903 N Street, NW
From a press release:
Chef Frederik de Pue, owner of 42° Catering, and former Executive Chef of Smith Commons is pleased to announce this Friday, January 18 as the official opening date for his breakout solo restaurant project, Table, located at 903 N Street NW in the Mt. Vernon / Shaw / Logan boundary neighborhood. Doors open at 5pm for dinner service.
“It’s been a longer road than I anticipated to get Table open” said Chef de Pue. “But, we’re all very ready and excited to get people in to experience the space, to taste the food we’ve been working on, and to enjoy themselves at our new spot.”
In anticipation of the celebratory atmosphere with the upcoming Inaugural and Federal holiday events, Table will also be open for dinner service on Monday, January 21st from 5-11pm, offering neighborhood residents and guests the opportunity to stop by and say hello, enjoy a glass of wine or try something on the menu before heading off to celebrate.
On a longer term basis, Chef de Pue aims to make the 50-seat restaurant a neighborhood spot that favors open seating (no reservations are taken) as a place that offers a simple, intimate and reliable dining option with seasonal ingredients and simple preparations – all on view in the contemporary open kitchen on the ground floor.
The menu will change to reflect product availability and seasonality, offering dishes like Burgundy Snails with White Beans and Spinach; Bison Hanger Steak, Garlic Frogs’ Legs and other rare or atypical DC menu items. Regular offerings include Mussels Provencal; Tagliatelle with Tomatoes, Ricotta, and Basil, and Hazelnut Fritters in Chocolate Lemon Sauce. Table will also offer a selection of cheeses and charcuterie, in addition to wine and craft beer. (No full bar).
Hours: Dinner service only. Tuesday – Wednesday, 5pm-11pm, Thursday – Saturday, 5pm-midnight, and Sunday, 5pm – 10pm. Closed Mondays.
There are plans to add breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch beginning in February.

1318 9th St, NW
Dear PoPville,
Mood Lounge at 1318 9th St. NW is changing to Vita Lounge – with a grand opening tonight. I hope they’re trying to be a better neighbor. It’s still the same owners.
You can take a virtual tour of the space here and see their menu here.

5th and K St, NW
It’s fun to check out the evolution of the Louis’ Rogue signs at 5th and K St, NW.
I bet the neon one looked amazing when it worked:

I’m guessing this is the oldest:

And what do you think about this one, 70s or 80s:

601 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
I’ve been wondering what will happen to the current NPR building after they move to NoMa.
Yesterday the Post’s Jonathan O’Connell tweets:
“Arnold & Porter finalizes lease to move to 601 Mass Avenue, where NPR is now, in brand new building by Boston Properties.”

Their website says:
With its metal and glass tower rising above a preserved historic warehouse, 460 New York Avenue is worlds above common urban condos. This boutique community puts you right in the heart of the city, with your fingers on the pulse of modern style and convenience.

Thanks to all who sent emails about this awesome development in Blagden Alley. From DC Home Gallery:
Earlier this fall we shared a local NPR story on GoodWood proprietors, Anna and Dan Kahoe, and the history behind their carriage house on 10th Street NW. Last week we were invited for a sneak peek at the renovated lower level of the carriage house, which the Kahoes plan to use as a supper club and neighborhood private event space.
Check out their incredible photo gallery here.
